Yes Davy, when I broadcast I found the safest way to set up is to have everything plugged into the computer before turning it on, then leave everything plugged in until you turn the computer off.
I know some people have had no dramas unplugging cameras etc when the computer is still on, but I have found repeatedly that if I disconnect my Video Grabber while the computer is still on I get all sorts of problems and often crash.
So I have made it a habit now to turn the PC off, then unplug.
As far as "computer froze if linking back to forum ..on an other page", I use a separate tab to open the forum or anything else. If you are doing that, I don't know what the problem could be.

I had a look at the Justin tv page, and registered, but noticed there is a list of broadcast software available to choose from. Which ones are you using, or which have you tried? do they all do the same thing as manycam.

Yes Allan, there are several to choose from but most broadcasting sites recommend Xsplit or OBS over the others, and I agree. Both have more features and run better, although I tend to have a few problems with Xsplit, so I use OBS (Open Broadcast Software). Yes, it replaces the need for WebcamMax, Manycam, Splitcam etc. You can still use them (I used WebcamMax succesfully just to test it), but there is no need to which lessens the amount of software programs you have running, and I also find that avoiding WebcamMax and just using OBS that the final video online is much cleaner. It isn't going through software after software but direct to JustinTV. Last night I managed to do a Broadcast in a small gap in the clouds and the stars were sharper than I have ever seen them in other Broadcast methods. OBS (and maybe Xsplit too) will capture camera, or Window, or anywhere on the screen you want to lassoo, just the same as WebcamMax, Manycam etc. Here's a screen grab from last night showing that all I had open was Miloslick and JustinTV to do a Live Broadcast, and it all worked perfectly. The Audio was clear as a bell too. Sorry there are no stars. This was grabbed during rain which is why I shut down LOL. You may notice that I have Lassoo'd just the Video frame in Miloslick, but can move things around to show other items on the screen, same as with WebcamMax etc.

As Ken says OBS or X Split (not Twist) work great but my preference so far has been X Split. I can not get over how good this the program is and for free!! There is an upgrade version but the free version is all you will need. If you interested or anyone else I can broadcast a live tutorial later. There are supposed to be a few clear nights this week so I'll also be doing some broadcasts and testing out the new Mallincam Micro. In terms of quality, the image the view sees is the same image you see even at full screen!

ahhh yes, I forgot about the fullscreen quality, thanks for the reminder Karl. Yes Allan, at Full Screen the image doesn't pixelate. It hardly seems to lose any quality at all! It's like an ordinary Analogue camera is broadcasting in HD.

Stayed up till one saw a couple of stars out my window but clouds just kept creaping in..the moon would have been a good target if had been around. .will try the pd camera next. Thing I found using the web cam was no way to alter settings just running it in justin and limited with adobe.

Davy, if you run it through OBS (and maybe Xsplit too) you can change the settings for webcams. I tried it with my Phillips ToUcam Pro II and it controlled the camera functions. In OBS I right-clicked on the cameras name (in the camera list) and opened Properties, and there it was. Total control of the webcam.

Sounds good. I will have to have a play later in the week. looks like cloudy nights till wednesday. I'm still waiting for a clear night so that I can do a final focus on the allsky cam before I stick the acrylic dome on.

Allan you may find that after placing the Acrylic dome over your camera that it may alter the focus slightly because the camera will now have to look through the Acrylic. I know that by adding a filter you have to re-focus.
Hopefully Shevill can answer this.

Correct, the acrylic dome can act very much like the cornea over the front of your eyeball. Many people do not realise this is part of the eye optical system. If it gets damaged, you will have astigmatism, for example.
Using high quality domes of uniform thickness (my Sony domes are known for this-reflected in the price) and using good quality wide angle optical lenses, the effect can be almost negligible. However, it is a matter of trial and error. I set mine up at night using the stars and a monitor next to the camera housing, then I set up the focus without the dome, put the dome on, see if there are any changes, then on/off and adjust the focus by trial until it looks sharp with the dome on.
Hope this helps. Clear skies... Shevill

Thanks guys. I hadn't accounted for this phenomenon, but I will get it right before I put the cam and housing up on the roof.

Actually not bad here. I've focused the allsky cam on the stars and checked it with the dome on. I don't think I can get it any better, so I have stuck the dome in place with silicone sealant. If it ain't right, tough. Tomorrow I'll fix it to the top of the mast above the house. I have to go above the gutter to avoid the street lamp glare.
My Justin tv channel name is allan_uk
