It seems a lot less people were on last night. 3 broadcasters and a lot of regulars missing. I guess many were in bed or out enjoying the Sat night. I didn't even start broadcasting till 10pm. So that's way to late for you! I missed it too Hemmi, I did watch out for you but at 10pm your time I was out for the count! I should be on myself later. I want to try Jupiter with the SBC-2000 again, one with filter, one without. I also want to test with a Barlow and without so a lot' of Jupiter if it stays clear. Now that you have had to chance to try the HD SDI what are your thoughts? Is it much better than a normal cam or do you need better conditions to test? Also, how does it look on NSN compared to direct monitor? The other night I caught the end of Rock saying it would not work on NSN but missed the actual conversation. Hope to see you on later!

I've missed a whole lot of broadcasts lately due to being busy. Most broadcasts are either before I get up (U.K) or when I am busy during the day (USA). But I did manage to catch a broadcast by another Aussie tonight. It was interesting seeing his method of broadcasting, with himself Chroma-keyed (green screened) into the broadcast. Wish I had the clear sky to broadcast

Conditions and scope need to be good to notice a difference. I do see more detail I think with the HD camera. Its hard to explain, but I think more surface details of the moon are visible. Th image looks much better on a monitor than NSN.
I find the biggest issue is trying to broadcast HD..It crashes my browser a lot. It also slows down my PC dramatically.

I did manage a quick look at your broadcast last night, but as it was between 1 and 2am i was too tired to watch for long. You were doing 320sec subs at the time. First impressions of M51 were quite good. How did the stacking turn out?

Here are two images from last night, only adjustment is levels to correct color. M51 is a stack of 3, lots more is needed to clean it up as stretching the histogram so far results in graininess. But overall the camera did well. M51 is 5min20sec, m81 is 4 min.

Guiding was giving me issues last night also. And I have some issues with astrolive I need to address with Kyle.

Thanks Chris. I am really starting to think I need a faster scope with the ATIK. 5min 20 sec is getting close to all my mount can reliably track. I think I could increase that to 10 min if I get a better polar alignment and tweak my guiding. Maybe a longer focal length guider would help.
Even at 5 mi I have to really get aggressive with the histogram to pull the image out. Im sure if I stacked many images I would get great results.
My stars are nice and round for the most part, but not pinpoints like I would get in a wider refractor. The issue is finding a focal reducer that works with a 2/3" chip greater than .7x. The .5x etc all are designed for 1/2" or smaller chips.
I may just have to buy a new OTA for this camera if I want to get results quicker. I don't mind the 5 min wait, but I do mind that I have to stretch the image so much. This stretching causes noise which makes the image not much better than what I could get with a mallincam.
I'm not looking for a mallincam alternative, I'm looking for better images. With my mallincam I can focal reduce all the way down to f3 due to the small chip and not get coma or vignetting.
I think for now I will try stacking more shorter exposures and see how that works out. But may end up getting an ED70-80mm refractor to use as an imaging scope for the new camera. It would be nice to get those great richfield shots.
But overall broadcasting with astrolive on NSN is a snap, and just as easy as with a mallincam. It just takes a bit longer to get an image. But I could prob cut those times in half with a wider scope.

Lol i would love to be able to get a 5min+ image I'll invest in a GEM mount at some point down the line! Ahhh i should read more carefully… i didn't realise the above pics are from the ATIK. They look really good man! How does say a 30 sec image compare to a 30 sec from the jnr pro? Interesting point about reducers… heres a thought… Would the 2" reducers not work better with the bigger chips? Also glad to hear you have astrolive up and running fine. I looked at it for a while… it just confused the hell out me tho lol

I was fighting my own setup Saturday and having horrible success. I wouldn't have been a good chat buddy.

Seeing as I'm going to disneyworld tomorrow, and my flight does not leave till 3pm. I'm going to start my vacation by broadcast the moon tonight. Weather is great (but hot as heck), I should be on as soon as I see enough stars to align the scope! My Dob is repaired, so I will be using the 10 inch dob and the HD-SDI cam! Hemmi Looky at this nice ole chart! cleardarksky.com/c/RaleighNCkey.html?1

I think with these one shot camera's the key is to do lots of short exposures rather than do a few long ones.
