Hello Chaps,
Currently I have Sky Safari Pro on my I Pad and I use it all the time for setting up, identifying and finding targets etc. I used to use it to control the scope wirelessly but found it had some issues with the AZ EQ6 and in particular the HC Software version 3.35. Anyway I looked into the possibility of getting the app on my PC with Windows 7 and it seems I can do this using the Bluestacks Android App Player. However, the window can not be resized which is a right pain as I was hoping to the use Sky Safari when broadcasting. I found you can resize the window via regedit but this only reduces the player window and not the app meaning you lose half of it!!
Does anyone have any experience with this Bluestacks or failing that what planetarium comes close to Sky Safari?

I only ever use stellarium to be honest. I removed Stellarium recently as it kept freezing and messing up the PC. Not sure if this is a common problem or not.

Possibly... as when i used it on my xp netbook it crashed a lot. However on my mac its fine never had a problem.
I dont use any software like that on the pc while im broadcasting as i think im pushing my old pc to its limits. It can be really slow to respond sometimes.

Good point Chris and it may be why the thing kept jamming up the PC!

I've never seen Sky Safari. Sorry I can't help you Karl. I did have Stellarium but yeah, it crashes and kills my computers too. I got rid of it. I also had Sky6 and The Sky and I uninstalled both. Hated them. 'Hello Northen Sky' was near to hopeless, and other smaller unknown software maps were useless. I purely run on Cartes du Ciel. Have for 10 years. Some people hate it, others love it. Me, I can't do without it. It's the sky map I keep opening on screen when you are all watching my broadcasts It drives mounts to.

I downloaded Cartes Du Ciel last night so I'll have a play and see how I get on. I've not seen one of your broadcasts yet so it will be interesting to see how you use it! Sky Safari is an excellent piece of software and well worth a look www.bing.com/videos/search?q=az+eq6&FORM=HDRSC3#view=detail&mid=B5B775BC9E72FE263E87B5B775BC9E72FE263E87 this video shows Jack doing a demo of his AZ EQ6 but using Sky Safari to control the mount. Nice but no good for what I'm now looking to do.

I have the iPad version so had to pay again! It works fine apart from the fact you are stuck with the window in 1 size and this is fiddly if you want to use it as part of a broadcast. Not had much chance to play with Cartes yet but I'm sure it will do the job for now.

Chris, you are in the wrong section. You are in the Circle marking area. If you look in your photo you will se you are in the Finder Circle marker. There is a small arrow that you can click on to move across to the next selection which is CCD rectangles. I have marked on your photo how to find it by clicking on the small arrow. Next tip in the next post Attachments:

When you have the CCD rectangle page up you will see a list that you can change. You will also notice that you already have some rectangles marked (I see the rectangles in your photo). They will have a tick in the box. You can remove them by UN-Ticking them. You can either change the size of one of them to suit your FOV, or start a new one by clicking in any other box (see my photo) Next tip in next post Attachments:

Once you have that worked out, the size you need to enter is your FOV in Arcminutes (I need to change mine now that I have made a new Focal Reducer). If you don't know the size in Arcminutes you can work it out by putting all your details into CCD Calc and it will tell you your exact FOV in Arcminutes. In this photo you can see how my rectangle has a label on it saying "Mallincam, ED80, FR" because that is what I wrote next to the figures in the settings window. That way I know what FOV rectangle I am looking at, to see that I have the right one open (ticked in the box) if I have several available. Attachments:

If you aren't able to work out your FOV in arcminutes, give me your details and I will let you know.
I will need your scope aperture, focal ratio, focal length, and focal reducer info (0.5x, .075x, etc). Then I will also need your sensor info: Pixel size (in Microns), and sensor size (in pixels).
Depending on where you have your focal reducer placed, these figures will give you your exact FOV.
If it looks different to what your cameras actually sees it's easy to adjust the number in the setting windows to suit what you see.

I don't use it to control the scope anymore though as I had lots of issues with it. Several others with the AZ EQ6 and using the firmware 3.35 had the same problem. There was supposed to be a firmware update from Skywatcher but they have been promising this for months!! Anyway I prefer controlling the scope with the hand controller and sold my Skyfi unit. If they ever get round to fixing the issue I may get one again.

Hello John,
Yes this was my issue with it, you can only have two sizes! I have now uninstalled it to save much needed space. You can change the size of the window by going into regedit but it won't change the app and you'll lose part of it. I think Bluestacks are working on changing this but for now it's two sizes only. The green dot I have no idea I did not have that problem. I'd post the question on their help section which you can access from the software or their website.
