Cheers Ken! I read the help file and it said i needed my fov in minutes so i spent ages trying to find out how the hell i do that lol. No joy! CCD calc wont run on a mac I got the ccd window working based on the chip size. I just need my scope circle thing now. My scope is 2000mm fl, 203mm aperture, 0.5 reducer f/5 ratio Fancy giving me some numbers to put in please? Chris, I can't work out your question. Your measurements of 2000mm fl and 203mm aperture are OK. Then you say "0.5x FR f5 ratio". Is the f/5 the resultant focal ratio using the focal reducer or the scopes native focal ratio? Also, these figures will give you the rectangular FOV that you were after, not a circle. What's the need of a "scope circle" for?

Sorry Ken i meant its f/5 with the reducer Basically what im looking for is to copy the way i use stellarium. I have it setup with my scope and a few different eyepieces 25mm, 12mm, 6mm, 3mm. This allows me to look at an object and get a rough idea of what i will be able to see depending on what im doing. 25mm = My max VOF based on my lowest power eyepiece 12mm = My FOV when using a 0.5 reducer and 1/3" chip 6mm = MY FOV when using nothing @ f/10 and a 1/3" chip (question about this...this was based on a 1/3" chip. Will it be more like 8mm with the 1/2" mcx?) 3mm = My FOV when using a barlow In regards to "Whats the need for the scope circle". Well i assumed it would need to have my scopes details to work out how big my rectangle is going to be based on my scopes FOV? Cause the only details it currently has to work out my fov are the chip dimensions.

Also my first thoughts on Cartes... Not as good as stellarium. Main reasons are its slower than a week in the jail! moving around the sky is just slow and clunky. Turning off 'anti alias drawing' and 'reduce details when moving the chart' in the display settings makes it feel smoother but still its not great. Stellarium just flys around the sky with such ease. And also you need to go and manually download the picture database to see what things look like. Ive not done this yet but come on... its not hard to include a few pics of the main objects in the software package

Chris, I don't know what version of cartes du Ciel you have but mine works fast, moves around the sky instantly, and displays photos of objects without me ever downloading anything to get them. It may not look as fancy and as realistic as Stellarium, but I really don't like realistic looking maps. I like simple star maps LOL! Also Stellarium stuffs up every computer I have ever put it on. Now, about your FOV rectangles and circles: You can use the Circles as an Eyepiece measurement to show what each eyepiece sees. Back when I use to do that I did it by looking at the Moon and guessing the scale. The Moon is Half a Degree wide (30 arcminutes) and entering the sizes in the Circles chart. But the measurements you gave me are only for the FOV of a camera which uses the rectangular markers. The measurements you need to enter according to the figures you have given me is in your original post are: (assuming you are using a mallincam 1/2" sensor) 22.2 arcminutes Wide x 16.6 arcminutes highI also noticed that somewhere one of your numbers must be wrong because you can't have a 203mm x 2000 = f/10. It's mathematically impossible. The CCD calculator kept correcting the figures as I put them in

Thanks Ken. Ohh thats funny. Maybe the mac version is just a basic version compared to the pc one then. Cause it says i need to download the pics. On the slowness side. Im not he only one that has this issue. people using insanely fast machines are getting the same. i found a thread on sgl about it. Thats were i got the tip for turning off anti alias drawing. I will check the pc version out too. Regarding the figures. I have no idea man but thats what the front of my scope says. 203.2mm, 2000mm fl, f/10

Regarding the figures. I have no idea man but thats what the front of my scope says. 203.2mm, 2000mm fl, f/10 That is crazy, I think they are doing some rounding of those figures. One of those numbers is not correct, LOL. 203.2 Aperture x f10 = 2032fl 2000fl / f10 = 200mm aperture 2000fl / 203.2mm aperture = f9.842519685039370078740157480315 LOL

But hey, it's Free What is Anti Alias drawing in Cartes? Must be some section I've never seen before.

Thanks Chris. It seems we have different versions of Cartes. - First pic is the version I am using. - Second pic is where I turned off anti-alias (whatever it is). Thanks for that tip. - and Third pic is another thing I was taught to turn off to speed things up. Automatic sky colour. When turned on it is constantly running and changing the sky colour. I always have it off.

Thanks Chris, but I don't like the newer versions of Cartes du Ciel. That's why I still have the 3 year old version. I tried the updated versions, uninstalled them and went back to the older version Maybe why mine runs faster. Less clutter than the newer versions. The old original versions 1 and 2 back around 7 or 8 years ago were hell to use
