Hi Karl I had thought of that a while ago but it just wouldnt have a permanent home for it as the radio desk/room is full. It would mean I would have to set it up with the rest of the gear when I was viewing. Hows your remote setup coming along have you tweaked everything?

It would mean I would have to set it up with the rest of the gear when I was viewing. Hows your remote setup coming along have you tweaked everything? That is the problem, there is never enough space.. no pun intended Re the setup, not had chance to use it much to be honest with Christmas and poor weather. The plan now is to get the wider FOV as with the current set up my Goto accuracy has to be ridiculously accurate. Thanks to Ken's link www.newastro.com/book_new/camera_app.php I now see just how tight my FOV really is! No wonder I never managed to get a decent shot of M31!! The idea is to get the Equinox 80 or similar to use as a finder scope on some nights and then as the main scope for targets like M31. When used as a finder I'm hoping the CR6 will give me enough juice to see roughly how far I'm off so I can nudge up/down/left/right etc. This hobby is endless!! Cheers Karl

Yes Karl M31 is a biggy, heres the only way I can get it in FOV as the reflector does not entertain reducers with a camera. This was taken with a 130mm SLR lens on the Sammy.

Nice Carl, now that is a decent FOV! Do you think the CR6 would work as well as the Sammy or is the jury still out on that one?

Hi Karl here are shots with both on the same night First the Sammy second the CR6 both at x512 no filters just raw, if that helps,

Question for all you cable guru's... I opened up the bullet cam and took it apart. Looking at it... its just 1 5pin crimp thing that does video, power and osd control to the wee buttons.... Could i not just get basically an extension cable for this to have the buttons at the pc end and a long extension cable out to scope? Would that work? Edit: Found this proto-pic.co.uk/5-pin-mini-icsp-connector/ could i use something like this to connect an extension wire?

I cannot see any reason why not and would be pretty easy to do by the looks of it.
Red = + Voltage Yellow = Video signal White = OSD Black = OSD/ - Voltage
I can only see 4 wires so the black must be shared.

Ok good stuff But Carl your 'pretty easy' and my 'pretty easy' when we are talking about this kinda stuff are completely different! I just recently discovered what a soldering iron looks like lol. But i did think it looked pretty simple... Would that thing in the link do the job?

Chris the one in the link looks like the one that is on the board so no wont work (male type) you need the female type. I'll have a look at CPC they should have something.
In fact looking again Im forgetting the size forget connectors like that they are too small I couldnt even get an iron near them. It would involve cutting wires like I did with the Ln300. It can be done. I will have a look to see if there is an easier solution.

Yes you would have to have two connections one at the camera end and one before the buttons. so you are going to need two joins as the buttons are molded.
Im afraid this one would require solder and heat shrink to do but can be done.
This is probably confusing a bit.
The small connectors are all made by robots like the componants nowadays and too small to mess with unfortunately.

Ok thanks Carl. I will read into what heat shrink is and have a look for connectors that should fit. Will try and jake a soldering iron off a mate and give it a bash...cant be too difficult

Ok ive looked about for the wee connectors to attach an extension cable...found a couple of similar ones but none the exact same Question... Could i not just cut the wire before the buttons then attach them to a terminal block thing at each end of the extension cable? Would that work? Edit: What i mean by that is... cut the cable anywhere between the camera and buttons. Then add one of these block things to the camera end...then add in extension wires... then add the same block to the other end of the extension cable then just attach the button side of the cable to the extension... In my head i cant see any reason this wont work... but i know nothing about cables and wires etc so not sure if i will just destroy the camera?

I just used a low profile 2" to 1.25" adapter. Sanded it down and pressed it into the finder scope. Works perfect. However I use mine as a guider, but should work fine for any cam. Mine looks like hoops86 above. See my equipment post

Yes Chris that would be the easiest solution. The only bit to be careful of is the connector end at the cam. When cutting leave as much as you can to the connector, as when stripping the wire it is thin and it may take several goes.
I hold the wire with flat pliers then use other pliers to strip them, the idea is not to pull the wires out of the tiny connector.
You can get small lighter screw terminals for circuit boards which are small in most electronics suppliers.

Yeh i actually think i might have some small plastic terminals lying about the garage somewhere. Will have a look later. Ok hopefully this is my last stupid question on this.... What cable would you suggest to extend it? CAT6? Edit: Actually wouldnt i NEED to use plastic terminals? as i couldnt have both polaritys + & - running through a metal block? Or am i talking rubbish?

Yes your right there should have mentioned that! The screws need to be individual. That all metal one would short all the wires together. You could use the smallest block terminals for electrical use they would do the job. You could use Cat 5/6 and just use the number of wires you need. ASDA does 10m Cat 5/6 for about £8.00 or so. Or if its just four wires a 10m phone extension kit under a fiver same outlet
