These are all great Phil!!!! remember, Video isn't imaging. The nature of video introduces funny shaped stars, movement, blurry bits, Amp Glow, etc etc etc. It's 'LIVE' and people understand that. If they want perfect pretty pictures they can go look at them in Google Images or in Astrophotography websites. Video is exciting because it is LIVE , giving instant gratification 'warts and all'. I compare it to looking through an eyepiece with the 6 Million Dollar Man's eyes Like your last image just above this post, so many people seeing that Live would say things like: "Wow, look at that", and "Nice colours" because it is Live! In other words you are doing it right John, I have seen people with Sammy's and Mallincams and Gstar's get that green banding. I think they had cheap ebay Video Grabbers.

Testing first post here, sorry, This was m42 on the sammy 2000, 6in refractor achro, with 0.5FR, so 600mm f4 and 1 sec exp. Last October, first try....2 weeks ago similar result also, and last good skies here.

That's good George, there is a lot there for a 1 sec exposure.

Cool George. I recognise those Violet halo's around the stars from using an Achro. Boy they are hard to get rid of Even my high quality Astronomiks IR/UV filter won't cut that much UV but the 6" Achros introduce an awful lot of it. I did find that adding a light yellow filter did help a bit more. Nice M42 for 1 second!

I have a yellow filter, might be interesting to try as Orion is up these mornings, when clear. I gotta take better notes, forget alot over a yr and our long winters here.

Ok, sorry trying to figure how to post and navigate and reply and make it look semi-normal in the right place. This should be my first M31, also last October on the sammie 2000, 1sec exp on the 6in achro at F4 (600mm with 0.5FR). Any more and she blows out more. Dont know how much a filter would help, or god forbid extend exposure time, which is limited, and trailing starts on unguided mount real quick. I was happy to see that first dust lane though. Some of the other sammy DSO pix here look intriguing enough to try.

dont be sorry.. we are here to share , help, enjoy this cough awsome hobby lol ..
from what i have learned form these guys. is size does matter.. but in the other way around. lol small is good on somethings like a 80mm to say your 150mm . m31 is sooo big to us. that it needs wide FOV scopes. but some things you might need a large apature scope.
m31 small is good. dumbbell bigger is better.. your 150 should rock on things like the dumbbell.. that size ..
tho i could be way way off.
if you goto the genreal area . i posted a image of orion. takin with a cam and the same 80mm scope i use my sammie on.. yet i get 2 diff size images.. i think chip size has some to do with it also..
but the guys here will know more on this.. there awsome at this stuff..

Yes Phil, a big diffrence in FOV between the two chips. This is M42 using a Canon DSLR in an ED80 This is M42 using a 1/2" sensor in the Samsung 4000 using a 0.58x Focal Reducer, so the actual size of M42 would be nearly twice as large. The 1/3" sensor in the Samsung 2000 will give an even larger M42. Using a 1/3" sensor is the same as cropping a 1/3" wide rectangle out of the centre of a DSLR image. Here is the exact diffrence between a DSLR FOV and a 1/2" sensor FOV in the same Scope. The first image is the 1/2" sensor, the second image is a DSLR (Canon 400D) sensor. Read all the settings and you will see it is the same object, same scope, no focal reduction on either, but different sensor sizes. The frames in the left show a white rectangle denoting the FOV of each sensor.

The images in the software are part of Ron Wodaski's CCD Calculator software package. It's worth downloading (FREE) to calculate the FOV of any scope/sensor/Focal Reducer/Barlow combination www.newastro.com/book_new/camera_app.html

is that from say your driveway ? or dark area ? Phil, I wasn't sure if that was directed at me. Just my back patio, def not dark site with a 6 lane hwy 200ft out back and no wall (current expansion construction), and of course Toronto glow all over the place. No filters, so do best I can with what I got.
