Actually, this was the first video cam I was interested in. I almost ordered one, but did not want to wait for it. I too am eager to see how it performs. It sounds very good. I may still consider this for the future if it delivers the goods. I wish Matt every success with this cam.

The Camera according to Matt had a condensation issue, which led to the design being changed to a sealed CCD chamber. This delayed the release, but IMO its better to get it right, so delaying was a smart decision. It looks to me from the limited information, that the camera itself is just a CDD remote head. The brains of the camera are in the remote unit (I think ). This is a smart idea, it runs cooler and allow for a much smaller unit hanging from your scope. Not sure what the communications are between the head and remote nor the max distance, but if its digital, then EMF is no issue what so ever. The available info states its an off the shelve cat5 cable, so longer runs should be cheap. The use of off the shelve sensors is interesting, but it keeps the cost down. A picture speaks a thousand words, looking forward to some images.

I hate taking time off with a clear forecast and then having that go into clouds clouds clouds.
At least I got the equipment out to show a friend.
Maybe I'll do some work on MR-5 measurement and documentation.

I paid for the APU-1 system back in July . I heard that Matt had been sick and there was quite a backlog so I haven't hassled. I have since got a Micro Ex because I am the impatient sort . That arrived in a couple of weeks of purchase and have been pretty happy with it. Eventually I will have more cameras than I know what to do with. At present I am on holiday down the Victorian Coast. I was annoyed there was no room for a telescope in the car ,but it is probably ok because the skies are cloudy down here for the next 2 weeks anyway. I am preparing for my 21st Pier to Pub swim at Lorne this weekend so I will try and get to bed early instead. Paul

From what I've heard, the APU-1 has still not been delivered to those who ordered it. I also heard that the Yahoo forum is heavily moderated by the owner and any comments asking about the whereabouts of a camera or complaints made are censored. Not sure what that's all about. The promised delivery dates keep changing and get pushed back with one excuse after another. Not a way to run things if you ask me.
