What kind should I buy. I had a startech, but that broke.
What should I get that has a quality signal, but doesn't cost a arm and a leg?

Ok thank you Ken. I'll look these up.
How's their reliability?
I had a Startech and that broke after one time of use and I can't find the info to warranty it.

As I said Tim, I have used it for the last 3 years, and it's still working fine. Just make sure it is an Authentic EasyCap Grabber. The Chinese make a poor copy of it and some have had problems with them. You can order a genuine one from EasyCap themselves in the U.K. but I notice that their website is currently down. This is their site: easycap.co.uk/EDIT: Because of the amount of bad Chinese copies, Easycap has changed their name to EZcap and registered it, re-packaged it into a box and set up a whole new website: www.ezcap.tv/usb-video-capture/ezcap116-capture-card
Their new model does all these: XP, Vista, Win7 & 8, and MAC OS X 10.5.8 or later

Feel a bit of a numpty never thought of capturing the av signal from dvr to monitor. .Cheers guys..happy days now and with the new video grabber the dvr is a goer ..capture on dvr is way to go for multiple cameras..wonder if you require a hard drive if you are capture the output signal. .

Davy i dont have a hard drive with my dvr. Its not needed to be honest. Last night I captured everything on the pc through miloslick. It works out nicely as i just leave record on all night and instead of capturing a huge video file it just saves each individual frame as a png file. Hardly takes up any space at all and means i have a copy of every frame and dont need to remember and take screen grabs

Had a wee think about it...I can record to my 1.5 tb dvr hard drive and then play back and record using video grabber..be ideal for star parties..record to dvr and view on a small monitor and can control mount via pc can even have grabber linked for wee peeks at live view on pc..gonna work out a treat I think...think dvr is way to go deffo..when did you send for your grabber.

Sounds good man! My basic way of thinking was that i could just view everything directly through the network cable... dont think thats possible tho Got this grabber in today... works fine on the pc. Didnt come with any drivers or software to use on my mac tho....

Update on the ezcap 116 from Kens link above. It comes with 'Showbiz' software. Seems decent and works fine. As i said it didnt come with software/drivers for Mac users.... But I contacted the company and they sorted it out very fast. They gave me this link to download 'Video Glide'. It has the drivers needed to use this card on a mac. www.ezcap.tv/mac/videoglide.pkg.zip And provided me the serial number. Got it working fine on the mac with miloslick
