I captured this one much earlier than normal. in fact it was the first capture of the evening and only a few minutes after I switched on. Its hard to tell if it was actually a fireball, but it lasted for 2 secs and appears that it was quite bright. Notice the dashed trail in the jpeg image. This was only on x2 senseup and shows why a more sensitive camera or faster lens would be useful for capturing at the full frame rate. The watec 902H2 is looking more attractive but finding fast lenses is almost impossible.

here's a link to the avi. flic.kr/p/oLd7Pf Hi Allan, Nice capture-especially having just switched on. It will be interesting to see how well or otherwise the PC164-2 performs when it arrives. At least I have some fast Computar lenses I can try, a great pity they stopped making those in 2007, but back then the cameras were so less sensitive even a good 1/2" CCD is knocked sideways by modern 1/3" cameras today for surveillance work. My $20.000.00 medical/scientific Sony 3-CCD 1/2" colour camera actually went up to 8-seconds exposure with a db gain up of some incredible figure, but still too slow by today's standards.
Clear skies... Shevill

Thanks Shevill. I'm quite jealous of your lens collection. I've found reference to some really fast 1/2" lenses during my research, but sadly, as you say, they are no longer available and extremely hard to find.

it could be a iridium flare. I normally go outside and eyeball them when they are due to pass over, very bright no need for bino's or scope
next one to pass over is iridium 8, Thursday 4th @ 03.10.08. start elevation 24deg
