I'd have a search on the net about these drives, seems a mix bag, some say they are good and some say slower especially after cloning, I've done a fresh install with win8.1 as I didn't want all that bloated win7 Toshiba software on it. I've been installing most of the software I normally use. Just been on Seagate website and there is a new firmware update for it, i'll use it for a month or so to see if there is any problems and if there is I'll have a go at updating the firmware. The boot up time doesn't seem to be constant, sometimes its about 9 seconds and anything up to 14 seconds at times, I've bypassed the sign in window and it boots straight into the desktop, maybe because of the new software I've been loading on it but others have mentioned the various boot up times, just have to see how it goes

Well I had my first problem with Win8.1, yesterday while doing the windows update it failed on one of them and boy was it a ball ache trying to sort it out.
When it failed it stated it needs to restart windows which it did on its own but only got as far as the small window at the beginning of the boot sequence and then it went into a loop going as far as the little window then rebooting again. I let it run for about 15 minutes hoping it would go into safe mode but than didn't work.
Next I tried to manually boot into safe mode but couldn't get into that, tried many times but no joy. Then I thought I'll slip in the win cd and try to do a repair from there, that didn't work because the bios was set to Hdd first and cd drive second, ok I'll go into bios using 'shift F12' while it was starting to boot, must of took me about 12 attempts to get into the bios, finally got into bios and changed the boot sequence to look for cd drive first. Came out of bios and tried to reboot again and still no joy, just wouldn't boot to cd drive, now I must of been at it for about a hour and getting a tad bit frustrated with it, so I spent another couple of minutes trying to get back into bios which I managed to do again and this time had a good look around and found a parameter set to 'fast boot' so I changed this to 'normal boot' came out and rebooted and bingo I was able to boot into safe mode, tried a system restore and that didn't work still booting into a loop.
Next step boot from cd drive and tried 'repair startup' that didn't work so the only thing left was to go make myself a large vodka and coke and I mean LARGE, in a pint glass hum hum.
So I ended up doing a format and a re-install, it took in all about 5 hours to get the lappy to how it was and this time it installed all the updates without a hitch.
So if anyone else has this problem make yourself a large drink and go into bios and change the parameter to 'normal boot' change it back to fast when your finished. The only thing I can think of is because win8, 8.1 boots up so fast it cant see the 'F' keys to change the boot up options, also maybe because I've also disabled the login password, who knows, but there you have it. bloody computers

Don't know if anyone that uses win8.1 noticed that ad hoc as been removed in the software.
I don't know what these programmers are thinking of when they remove apps that are useful for some users. There is a work around but its not all that good. Same thing happened with the android OS, people complained but it just fell on deaf ears. Luckily some programmers have been able to enable this again by rooting the device or making a new modified OS with it enabled.
I use Sky Safari Pro and the wireless SkyFi usb adapter for android to control the scope so I had to install a modified Cyanogenmod OS on the android tablet so the tablet can now see the Skyfi adapter ad hoc network
