This is a work in progress; I bought a Ioptron ieq45 mount so I could piggyback both my VRC6 and my 80mm APO. Hopefully I will still get good tracking with all the weight. Now I have to wait for the astrogods to give me clear skies, but the new equipment curse is in full effect. 20140811_164451 by william.hemmingsen, on Flickr Hemmi

What rings did you get for the 80, Lee?

What rings did you get for the 80, Lee? They are just cheap orion rings. They are ugly, but they seem solid enough. I may replace them at some point. Hemmi

Very nice set-up Lee.
Those 80 rings are fine. Same as I use.

Thanks ... I've been trying to decide what to use ... The guidescope description threw me off.

Tracking is fine, but gotos are not very good. Still learning this mount

Lee what is that fancy black box on the tripod leg?
How's the VRC6 stacking up, I've been looking at one similar over here in the uk. www.opticstar.com/Run/Astronomy/Astro-Telescopes-Altair.asp?p=0_10_1_9_42
I want something with a slightly longer focal length than my ed80 F7.5 and a faster F ratio, so was thinking about one of these with a focal reducer which would give me about F4.5 and about 650mm focal length . I don't know if it would be suitable for my setup, using a MTP mount with no guiding, so I need a fairly quick scope.
I could try my 127 mak with a reducer but its so slow at F12

i have allways fancied the sw quatro 205mm at f4 or something at 800mm focal lenght its a fast scope and has pyrex glass for faster cool down time and its for astro photography would love to see what i could do with a video camera on it

From what I've read about them they seem to be a bit of a delicate bit of kit, when they're setup right they're good but some user's say that collimation is critical on them being a fast scope. they are ok if they are fixed in a observatory but seem to go out collimation if they get bumped about but this can happen to any similar type of scope, and also some have reported to get a bit of tube flexure around the focuser. I'm sure some user's have no problems with it. One bloke put up two images, one before and after he tweaked the scope up, but to me with a untrained eye on what to look for they both looked the same, maybe that's why I do video coz its not as critical
