Hey guys last night i decided to have a go using the mcx with no reducer to get a closer view of stuff just for fun (mainly just for ring neb). My tracking at f/10 was pretty poor to be honest. So spend a lot of time messing with AGC settings to go as short exposures as i could. I found i just didnt like the images when going over AGC 5. All in... it was just a pain in general trying to get decent views. So much noise, poor colour, poor tracking etc. I think its safe to say using a alt/az and a f/10 scope dont work very well lol! Heres a few grabs. Stacking was completely out the question last night! Tried but failed badly haha.

Looks pretty good to me Chris! Yes there is slight star trailing but it is Live. The colour is good in the Planetary Nebs! I like them

Great results Chris. Going at F10 will certainly tax equipment to their fullest. Small bright planetaries that can be captured in a few seconds will be the best targets. They don't require higher gain settings as it usually results in burning out the central region, even in short exposures of a few seconds. I have included my own M57 attempt at F10 using a C11. One thing that becomes very obvious is how much longer exposures need to be at F10 to capture the same depth as at shorter exposures.

Cheers lads. Yeh dwight the extra exposure needed killed me basically! I reckon on a EQ mount f10 wouldn't be too bad. But i just found it so hard to pull out the detail and colour before getting trails. Thinking about it now i can understand why it was so bad. The combination of needing both double the exposure and much better tracking compared to f5 just makes life brutal when using a alt/az lol. As i said I'm in no rush to do it again haha! Very nice ring neb man i like it!!

uncle john here. chris, whats your thoughts on the wedge system, which simplifies the tracking on the fork mount, john.

Hi uncle John. Well ive heard it’s a bit of a nightmare to get it all working right. Add to that the wedges are really expensive and that the fact it would make my setup too heavy and too difficult to carry out in one go! So ive kinda stayed away from the wedge route. Im planning on just buying a EQ mount to be honest.
