Hey guys just a random post to say I'm planning on downsizing my current setup. Im moving to a flat right in the heart of Glasgow city centre in about a months time. So its just not gonna be practical to have such a big scope anymore. The good news is the new place does have a balcony. But will be a very restricted view So all things considered its time to punt the big lx90 and go with something smaller and more portable. Plan is to just keep the piggybacked 70ED and buy a new mount. Will miss the small FOV of the SCT but can't have it all ways Front runners is the iOptron mounts to be honest. I was thinking of the minitower pro as I've heard good things about it. But the smart EQ pro sounds really good and is cheap! www.altairastro.com/product.php?productid=16498&cat=0&page=1What I'm thinking is though…I'm not sure that i will have a view of polaris... Having never used an EQ mount I'm worried it will turn into more hassle than its worth. Anyone got any experience with this mount? Also how difficult is it to align an EQ mount when theres no view of polaris?

Hi chris..looks a good mount. .eq mount takes a bit of getting used too but it's not hard..can this mount interface with the eqmod..if it can it's well worth the switch. .

Chris my vote is for the smart eq and your 70ED. I would then add a 50mm finder/guider to the mix. If you run no focal reducer the FOV should be great for most popular targets. And the added guiding will allow you to to get longer exposures and good stacking.

I'm yet to read a bad word about it! Seems to be a super little mount! It can only take up to 5kg (including counter weight) but that should be just about enough! As you say Hemmi... Plan is get the smart EQ along with the miniguider! Should be a sweet combination! Will be pushing the weight limit a bit but should work fine. Won't be getting it for at least another month though. Will keep you's posted and give a review when I get them

Ioptron has a polar routine for when polaris is not viewable, at least my ieq45 does. You pick a star and it goes through a routine to adjust the head till its aligned. Once its aligned you may want to put some marks on the ground where the tripod legs go, so the following alignments will be quicker.

Take a look at PemPro 2. You can download a trial version. www.ccdware.com/It's easy and accurate. No need to see Polaris.
