Bought a new Celestron Hand Control as an upgrade (Nexstar to Nexstar +). I tried 3 separate alignments tonight and have a large repeatable goto error. Reset to Factory defaults and re-entered time site info. Same error large offset in Alt and Az. It is possible I used a wrong star (Spica and Antares) due to changing cloud cover.
Anyone had this issue before ? If so let me know. Will try again tomorrow night, but cloudy for a few more days.
Thanks Patrick

Pat, I don't know anything about the Celestron brand hand controllers, but if it is anything like the Skywatcher Synscan hand controllers the most common errors are in the information put in.
- Check the date. Most hand controllers like the date entered using the American method: Month-Day-Year, not our usual Day-Month-Year.
- If you enter the time by Local Time (not Military 24 hour time) you need to make sure you put AM or PM correctly.
- Standard Time or Daylight Savings Time
- the Correct Location: Choose the city from the database that is closest to your current observing site. The city you choose will be remembered in the hand controls memory so that it will be automatically displayed the next time an alignment is done. Alternatively, if you know the exact longitude and latitude of your observing site, it can be entered directly into the hand control and remembered for future use as well. To choose a location city: Use the Up and Down scroll keys to choose between City Database and Custom Site. City Database will allow you to select the closest city to your observing site from a list of either international or U.S. location. Custom Site allows you to enter the exact longitude and latitude of your observing site. Select City Database and press ENTER. The hand control will allow you to choose from either U.S. or international locations. For a listing of U.S. locations by state and then by city, press ENTER while United States is displayed. For international locations, use the Up or Down scroll key to select International and press ENTER.
I hope something here helps.

Thanks Ken, Reset everything again this AM. Either HC is Bad or I made the alignment on the wrong star (done that before, just not as bad). Cheers Patrick

I have never had an issue with the Nexstar+ I have a couple of them. I think your aligning on the wrong star. I have done that many times actually. Also make sure the hand controller is set to Alt/Az, I think they come default to GEM.

Hemmi Thanks Hemmi, I think you are correct the sky was about 75% clouded out with a couple of holes I could see a few star's thru (made a guess of who they were, but most likely wrong). Cloudy for a couple of Days here...Cheer's Patrick

Installed Old HC (version 4, non +) and NO Problem with Pointing. Not sure what to do but return HC. Reviewed all settings again in new HC and see NO differences (late/Long/time/CPC mount/GPS....) between the New and Old HC's. Lost not sure what to try, but the pointing Error is the same direction and same amount. Looks like some kind of Offset in the HC Firm Ware. Will try Set Mount Position in the Utilities Menu tonight after another alignment. Thanks Patrick

Did a Solar System Alignment on the Moon (with Lunar Rate set), works like a charm for the past hour. Will try a two star alignment tonight rather that the Auto Two Star tonight and see if it works. Later that night.... Everything is working in ALL Alignment Modes (party time). Found another small but important change in the Sky Safari that was causing the issue with the New Hand Control (Nexstar+) vs. the older Hand Control (Nexstar). The telescope set up menu in Sky Safari, requires Alt Az GoTo rather than Fork Mount GoTo for the new Hand Control to function correctly. Both versions of Sky Safari work with the Old Hand Control with either Telescope set up (Alt Az GoTo or Fork Mount GoTo), but not so with the new Hand Control which requires Alt Az GoTo selected regardless of the Sky Safari Version. Close the Thread and save for Prosperity (Happiness and Good Health)..... Patrick
