Hi,
This is the code number for the Sony Clear Dome Cover 90 mm diameter, YT-LDC53V (Outdoor version)
This is a type I have used for many all sky camera's the quality is excellent. Its life depends on your location, degrades (yellows) over time under strong sunlight (UV) not an issue in the UK, and some crazing due to atmospheric airborne hydrocarbons, vehicle exhausts etc.
Hope you are successful and can locate same.
Regards from "Down Under"

Thanks Shevill. I don't mind it going yellow over time, as long as it doesn't look CLOUDY.

Thanks for all the info on the domes Shevill its much appreciated! I will try my cheapo one I bought and see how it goes. But as you guys say the quality will 100% be pretty terrible. It wouldn't be setup outside all the time so I don't need something amazing just something to keep the rain out. Living in Scotland means there is about a 90% chance you will get every seasons weather in one day without notice lol.

I was given a broken dome cam by a friend which had a smoked glass coloured dome. The dome looked extremely well made but in use I found it dimmed the stars slightly compared to having no dome at all. So I bit the bullet and bought a clear dome from Talbot designs. Again, extremely well made and a perfect finish. This should work very well with my allsky setup.
As a side note, there was a small scuff on the surface of the coloured dome which showed up as a dark spot on the image, but I have found that scratches can be polished away with T-cut paint restorer. A little work and a quick buff with a soft cloth and the coloured dome is perfect again. I will save it for another project.

thanks for the info allan..nice tip with the t-cut polish :) Hi,
The main thing when polishing any plastic like acrylic is not to generate any heat (easily done with vigorous polishing) gently does it with a light touch. Silvo metal polish also works well.
Clear skies... Shevill

They often does go opaque as some yellow with age, (depends on the material used) certainly in Oz with our intense UV and clear skies, some have an anti UV coating, which helps. Many are designed for indoor use and pointing downwards, unlike the pointing skywards with all sky views. When buying a dome, buy a spare, they never go to waste.
Clear skies... Shevill

I agree Shevill that clear acrylic may yellow over time. The acrylic lenses on my car headlights had gone considerably yellow with age, but after a buffing with T-cut, they are now crystal clear again.
