Is there any way to make an Orion AccuFocus electronic focuser work on the Orion Starblast 4.5 Imaging OTA? The focuser that comes on the scope is not great and the vibrations caused by trying to manually focus on planets are a pain. DSOs are not such a problem since I can just focus once using a Bahtinov mask and be good-to-go for the evening.
Thanks, Kim

Email Orion, I'm sure they will know for sure.

I emailed Orion and they said it wouldn't work. I was just wondering if someone here had figured out a way to cobble something together to make it work. A long shot I know.

Kim what does them 2 Phillips screws do on the underside of the focuser, was thinking you could make a bracket and fasten it onto there and use a rc servo
I use servo's on my mak127 and ed80 and they work quite well
If you already got the electronic focuser, all you need to do is remove one of the thumb wheels and get hold of a coupler to connect the focuser spindle to the electronic one

The issue I see is with the torque required to move the rack and pinion focuser of the starblast. I doubt any electric focuser will work. My starblast was quite stiff.

I suggest a focuser upgrade. I have a 130mm newt I'm thinking about doing that to.

Could you post a couple of pics of the focuser showing the underside of it. Maybe we can work something out.

I haven't ordered the focuser yet, so I don't have any pics that I can post. I don't want to buy the AccuFocus if there is no chance that it will work on the StarBlast. I'm assuming that I need to remove one of the focusing wheels on the rack and pinion focuser, attach the focuser to the focusing rod via a coupler of some sort, and attach the whole thing to the scope. I haven't been able to find any photos of how this would look on a similar scope. There are no set screws holding the wheels on. They may be glued on. And, as Hemmi said, the focuser motor may not be strong enough to move the focusing tube. Provided that I can remove a focusing wheel without trashing the focuser, I would still need to come up with a way of coupling the focuser to the focusing rod and devise a bracket to mount it to the scope. I was just wondering if anyone had done this on the StarBlast or a similar scope. If there is a strong possibility that it might work, I would order the AccuFocus and give it a shot.
Thanks for the suggestions and comments so far.

Ok, just Google 'Accufocus images' and you should find a page with images of the accufocus mounted to loads of scopes in many ways. You should find something close to your starblast scope
