If you remember a few months back I made a accessory tray out of a pizza tray, well I've just added to that with a rear red bicycle 5 LED lamp off ebay for £1.79p and Velcroed it to the underside of the tray.
hopefully now I can see the tripod legs and cables and will stop me from knocking the legs with my feet and walking on the cables . I'll try it out tonight and see how bright it is, it just needs to be bright enough to light up the bottom of the legs and cables near the mount, if its too bright I'll disconnect the diodes till I get the right light level.

Hahaha looking good John! I wish it was dark enough in my garden for me not to be able to see! Sadly i have like 5 nearby street lights illuminating everything Doesnt stop me tripping over wires in the mad rush to setup before the clouds roll in tho

Excellent idea John!!!! Be great at Astro events too, so the general public or other astronomers don't walk into your scope and mount! Sadly it happens all to often

John, very smart thinking! Thank you!
Might it be that trying tape or whatever on the lens would be easier than d/c'ing diodes? Might prove to be so if you change locations for your kit.

Its totally dark in my back garden when next door security light not switched on.
I don't know how long the batteries will last in the light, X2 AA, so I thought if I disconnect them it might last couple of nights

Johnno, I`ve also added three similar to yours to the bottom of my tripod legs when doing public outreach. I don`t know how many times little children have inadvertently kicked the mount resulting in a necessary realignment. They have around six different output settings from steady to an assortment of flashing sequences. They are easy to remove when not needed. Merely slide them out of their brackets. Here`s a link to them on ebay. Less than $10 for three.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-9-LED-Safety-Warning-Bicycle-Tail-Light-with-Red-/141050007966

JS

The pizza pan mod I have also used. It holds my monitor and battery at the perfect height for viewing. I`ll attach some pics later.

Speaking about mounts being knocked and such, one of our club members has a carefully aligned mount in his back yard. He booked the Man to come and mow his backyard lawn, and you guessed it! He moved the mount to the side, mowed the grass, then put the mount back. His wife watched as he did it but wasn't aware that it mattered

Very cool John. Love to see DIY being used in the hobby. I will be thinking of ideas for my SLT mount to make it more sturdy. I wish Celestron didn't have that unique type of mount and leg attachments. I have a CG4 that is rock solid but can't use it on the SLT. Love the pizza tray idea and of course the light. It's not dark enough in my yard for extra lighting.

Sorry they are upright when I post them. Don`t know why they shift 90 degrees when I load them. These should be better. Very nice set up Joe. But someone stole your lawn!

that's a better idea than mine John, mine was good for shining in my battery box
and another thing I did for when viewing solar with a laptop is to spray a cardboard box matt black inside to stop and reflections, works up to a point
