There has been a lot of interest in this rare event as visible supernova's rarely happen. In fact this event happened 11.5 million years ago, but has only now become visible due to the vast distance the light has had to travel to reach us. There have been quite a few live observations broadcast on the Night Skies network by people from all over the world who can see it with their telescopes. Unfortunatley I have not had the opportunity to view or capture this rare event for myself due to UK clouds. Here is a screen capture from one of those broadcasts. I took this screen capture at 7am on friday 24th Jan before I went to work. The Broadcast and resulting image was taken by a fellow broadcaster called TOM (SoIN) with his Mallincam MCX X2 Astro video camera, and it is to him that I credit this image. This image is not adjusted in any way, and is exactly as seen on my laptop screen.

Here is my offering through clouds. Not very good, but the supernova is clearly visible.

That was good Hemmi. Even though your image is smaller, the SN can be clearly seen and you have a capture of it so that you can compare it with future images.

Nice one Dave. I just popped in as a lurker last night and saw you imaging this, but as it was midnight and I was bushed, I didn't stay for a chat.

I saw Dwight online this morning as I was getting ready for work. Nice to have something other than the news to watch before work.
The SN could last another 2 weeks before it dims, but I could be wrong.
