Been a bit of a journey so far. And my findings so far as a newbie to 3d printing. I have been using silhouette studio that runs my craft cutter, it lets you do basic design stuff in 2d and then can be opened and put into silhouette 3d and printed. But,, it's no use for astronomy 3d printing so I have started using freecad software ,,but it's a big learning curve and I have made a few cable tidies for the heq5,, but I wanted something a bit easier on the brain. Guy I work with has a mate who is right into 3d printing model car's,,he mentioned that he uses the Xbox kinect camera to 3d scan objects,, still working on it with the skanect software but looks like I would need the pro version software,, but I'm not throwing money at this just yet.
Found a new cad programme that looks very promising,, bit easier to use and some easy to understand tutorials on YouTube Design spark mechanical

This is starting to sound more and more complicated as it goes along.

It is a learning curve no doubt about. But I think it is worth while. The astronomy advantages are good,, but the amount of things that can be printed is mind blowing,, I'm looking to get a bigger 3d printer that can use different types of filament to give me more options and a bigger build.

I've been using freeCad. But I got a headstart as I know a landscaper who uses similar and helped get me started
