Hi guys a new board,, since I'm bored and got a new toy. π So I got a silhouette Alta 3d printer,, only out approx June in USA, about two weeks ago I heard of it, Yeah yeah can hear you all saying Impulse buy. Far from it been looking into 3d printing for a while and checking out eBay and utube,, didn't want to go down the road of building up a kit or cheap Chinese model,, lol,, mine is probably made there π They sell for $299 in USA and Β£299 in UK,, how spooky is that,, but I found a Spanish based company doing it forΒ£250,, That will do nicely,, shopping free. Nothing startling,, but it really pretty to look at π You get a bit of filament to test your Machine,,I was waiting on more getting delivered from the bay. So for astronomy , I bought luminous green,,, mmmmmm new skywatcher colour if you see the new scopes and bits on my new dust gathering star adventurer π. So my first astronomy project will be the clips holding a laser pen to skywatcher finder scope. Signed up to thingyverse ,, under shirva. Not a piggin clue how to get file into software,, Printing out a Taurus with the luminance green to make a tenor stick mould,, But that's another project

Hi,Davy it's been awhile I to have got into 3D printing I have three printers at the momment.I'm trying to get my head around a few things such as designing parts on the cad program I'm using Fusion360 and design spark at the momment but other than that I have got two of the printer's working great but the biggest one is being a pain in the butt. Noticed on one of your post's that you were doing a 5hr + print and turned it off you should have let it run it's course that's what I do the biggest print I have done so far is 3.5 day's.May I ask what slicing program your using? The plan with me is to as your doing to make parts for the scopes

Hi davo,, Great seeing a few of us doing 3d printing,, think it gives us a bit of creativity for astronomy parts ,, just now it's been cable tidies for the heq5. Some good and some just not quite right, but it's a learning curve,, so many thing's can go wrong as anyone who design's part's from a cad program.
The design was for the last pen holder,, file from thingyverse, I started it late and with staying in a flat,,, I'm unsure of what noise level is like in the neighbour's flats,,, so not wishing to upset anyone I switched it off,, Few issues I had,, The support coloums became loose and came away from the bed... But I thought this may happen as they looked a bit shakey when they were getting printed.. I sorted it out with giving it a hit with hot glue gun and glued to main break away support,, ended up busy this weekend,, forgotten it was September weekend holiday. Going to download the new cad program today and try.
The machine I have is the silhouette alta and it uses it's own supplied software,

Nice,,, looking to get a bigger one at some stage,, looking at a cr20,, I like the idea,,you can stop and restart prints,, Still early days for me,, but I like the concept of printing my own parts,,

I got a diy anet a8, use freecad to design and cura to slice. I'm going well with PLA but have had trouble with ABS filament - my prints sometimes come loose while printing
