Well I connected up the 12 volt supply wrong polarity back in November 2016, fitted a new motherboard, the mount tracked OK, but I never got the GOTO working again. So I have decided to send the mount to Darkframe for an overhaul & tuning. www.darkframeoptics.com/page/tuningI've considered buying an EQ8 but even at £500 for a full overhaul and re-tune on my AZEQ6GT it is still miles cheaper to have the mount repaired and overhauled than swop it for the EQ8. I don't need the extra payload. If I buy a secondhand EQ8 I could still end up in the same situation with the new mount. So it will be on it's way for repair sometime over the summer, I will do an update when the mount returns.

Yeah, true Harry. The EQ8 is sooooooo expensive. The EQ6 is a great mount. I'd hate to part with mine, and mine is an old original Black model from 15 years ago (2004 model).

I take it yours has been re-greased at some time since 2004? Apparently the grease in mine goes dry after 4 years, and they are prone to having metal swarf from production inside. Mine has some play in it anyway so it will come back sorted.

Harry, mine was Turbocharged by an expert in his Telescope repair shop in Melbourne. The previous owner had it done. I know the chap who does the Turbocharging and he told me what he did to it to Turbocharge it. Old Black 2003-2004 model upgrade: Replace worm roller end shaft bearings, Replace RA & Dec Bearings, Pack/Grease Bearings with high quality Lithium Grease. He said he didn't have to replace the Worm gears with 2006 Pro Worm gears as the gears in it were excellent. Since I bought it secondhand about 12 years ago I do all my own work on it by following AstroBaby's fantastic website on Maintaining, adjusting, rebuilding and repairing EQ6 mounts. She really knows her stuff when it comes to the EQ6 mount. See here: www.astro-baby.com/EQ6%20rebuild%20guide/EQ6%20Strip%20Down%20Home.htmAlso check out other stuff on her website: www.astro-baby.com/index.htm
