Still playing with it so not sure if as good as it gets. (but darker skies will be a better test im sure) Full Moon with heavy light pollution (city lights) and average seeing (moon/jupiter was wobbling around..) Would love to see how milostick goes with in (once a cable is available). SW 8" Dob Goto, No Filters/Reduction.

Do need to look at a focal reducer but hesitant to spend money as I've read about the potential lack of focusing issues with newt's If ken posts about some cheap bino's on ebay again I'll give it a shot then ?

Nev reducers dont work with Newts unfortunatley I have tried. If your looking for a bigger FOV you could use SLR lenses. They work wery well.

There is too much modifying to do to get one to work (moving Primary Mirror up the OTA, fitting a larger secondary mirror) and even then you will see more Coma at the edges and you will still get Vignetting. The answer is to use a shorter Focal Length scope Nev.

I've read that in some scopes you can reverse the 2 to 1.25" adapter in the focuser to gain some valuable in focus. Also having a truss allows length adjustments..
Anyone have any experience with that?

Yes Nev, with a Truss Dob you can shorten the Focal length to match the Focal Reducer. Then you don't need to alter any adaptors in the Focuser.
But without using a much larger secondary mirror you will get horrid Vignetting. And you will still get Coma. It's the nature of the beast.

I'm not familiar with all the filters in Virtualdub yet, but the sharpening filters could be useful with the Mallincam Micro as well as other astro video cams.

I use 10" dob and I don't have any problem with focusing with the FR.
I use a Sammy though. Not sure if that would make a difference.

Hi, yes but if I slide the camera into this with the c mout 1.25 it will sit similar to yours as in camera up to the 2 inch focuser. So the reducer is well inside the scope focuser.

According to that link. The 2" to 1.25" adapter looks about the same size as the one that came with my scope. My camera fits really deep in to the 2" focuser.
