I have been a user of sharpcap since I first got into video Astronomy with my Philips spc 9000 webcam a few years ago,, how time flies phew,,, I used it on my meade etx80,, remember these wee things of beauty ,lol. I moved on to the Sammy scb2000 and continued using sharpcap,,
With weather changing to the worse , I couldn't justify buying an expensive Astronomy camera and started buying canon DSLR cameras to use via the new method of canon utilities/ byeos _ astrotoaster and it works very well,, I did buy the qhy5lii and to be honest ,,why,, the Sammy kicks it's backside every day of the week,, why o why do we jump on the band wagon and follow like sheep,,,,,
So I've been looking at the starvis sensor ect and newer camera's based around the toupteks and was all for buying one,, but the az gti got the nod first,, but what would I use,, the software supplied looks good..but I thought about sharpcap and started reading about latest pro version and Boy o boy has it gone through some major changes since I last used it.. I'm only piercing the surface of information and wow this is a major piece of camera software,, I will be purchasing the property version next week once my internet allowance kicks in again,, £10 what a steal.
More news to follow on sharpcap 😀

He has some impressive new features coming in Sharpcap 3.1: - A "seeing" monitor that only captures frames when the seeing reaches a preset level or when it is good. - Native support for Starlight Xpress cameras (Lodestar & Ultrastar). It currently works somewhat with an old Ascom driver but it's rather limited and has problems with the Polar Alignment feature. - A Sharpcap MaxMemory setting that lets you use up to half your system's memory for buffering before saving to a disk. An example he gave whas imaging with an ASI174. Sharpcap 3.0 saving at a frame rate of 55fps would drop 2300 out of 3000 whereas the new buffered option saved all 3000 without any dropped frames. One he announced today: automatic measurement of imaging sensor parameters (gain in e/ADU, read noise, etc). He states, "Once you know the gain and read noise for your sensor you can do all sorts of interesting calculations to help work out optimal exposure lengths, and SharpCap 3.1 will be doing those too" His latest updates appear on his Facebook page: www.facebook.com/sharpcap/
