Hi guys thought we could open a thread and discuss these cameras.
I've seen a lot of reports starting to filter through and I'm wondering whether to go for one. Now it's not that I desperately new camera and especially a dedicated Astronomy one that will no doubt sit on a shelf getting dusty as it's turning into the rainy season at Brigadoon.
I'm wary as well, I bought the qhy5lii a few years back on reports that it was a good camera,, my review of it is,, are you having a laugh. So how good are these cameras,, are folk getting good images or is it just hype.

The Rising Tech cameras get better by the month as they keep bringing out cameras with the features we want.
The first one you linked to is the basic 224 (I have 2 of them) and it does a really good job, but does get a bit noisy at higher gain, and suffers amp glow on longer exposures (past about 30 seconds). It is USB2.
The second one addresses these 2 problems by having fan cooling and their new Anti-Amp-Glow feature. It is USB3.

Does everyone buy these cameras on aliexpress? Aliexpress is RisingTech's sales point. You can buy the same cameras from other sources under different names. But one advantage of using RisingTech is that they will modify their cameras to suit what we need, which Touptek (the actual manufacturer) doesn't do. Touptek manufacture the cameras and anyone can resell them. As an example, the Touptek make: Revolution Imager 224, Touptek 224, Touptek AR0130, Reakway 120, Solomark 1.2, Opticstar PX-125C, Altair Astro GPcam, Microyn MT-GCMOS01200C, Microyn GCMOS01200KPB-S, AstroStreet 1.2, TS-Optics TSGP120c, Rising Tech GPCMOS01200KPC Rising Tech GCMOS1200KPB Rising Tech GPCMOS02000KPA (290) Rising Tech GCMOS1200KMB Rising Tech GPCMOS02000KMA Astromania SGCMOS etc etc etc and they are just the ones with the same standard body shape. Then there's all the others with different bodies but same sensor like Altair, Mallincam, etc Then many of them sell the other sensor cameras too, and on it goes.

Thanks for the input ken.. Do all the camera's run off the dame software,,, ie, same software but under a different name. What would be the best software to use with these camera's specifically is there much difference,, say one is good on DSO,, one is good on planets ect

I have this model a couple of days ago. You have seen some pictures of this....in the Near-Live Astronomy section. For me is a little better than Infinity and costs 4 times less. In my opinion is the best camera in the market for Videoastronomy

I have the RT224 Rising Tech GPCMOS01200KPC. Purchased on Aliexpress, arrived quickly too. The Rising Sky software is easy to use and I prefer it over SharpCap, although the camera performs well in both. I discovered very quickly that I couldn't achieve focus with an 0.5 reducer so I had a negative profile adapter made. I made a DIY Bahtinov mask as it was difficult to tell if I was actually in focus and that works a treat. All in all, a great little camera, money well spent. :-)

There's a price war.
E.g. On the 224. The rising tech camera is $284 The zwo camera is $269.
Both US$. But the rt has a built in fan. The zwo has the fish eye lens. Both shipping free. And RT have their own software
Never a better time to try a 224!! I'd be tempted to get some sort of RT camera just to try their software. As while I really like sharpcap I find its colour/contrast control lacking compared to astrotoaster.

Buy the RT IMX224. You will NOT regret it.
Fantastic for DSOs and great job at Planets. It is one of the best cameras on the market.
Although I have not upgraded myself, I have heard that the RT Software also has the Digital Binning feature which really ups the camera's sensitivity. This is the same feature that Mallincam announced recently for their SkyRaider Software and cameras.
Just do it.

ZWO IMX 224 = 369€ in Astroshop. Without cooling or carrying
RISINGTECH IMX224= 245€+40€ customs fees in AlieXpress. Whit amp glow reduction, electronic cooler and carrying.
For european people this is the cheap solution.
Love Sharpcap could be compatible with this cameras.

This is the same feature that Mallincam announced recently for their SkyRaider Software and cameras. Just do it. Yep, but be aware that the new digital binning feature isn't a 'Mallincam' thing. It is a 'Touptek' thing released and made available to all users of the Touptek software (ToupSky, RisingSky, MallincamSky, etc). They are all the same software, just a different name up the top left of the software window. All the cameras come from Touptek too. Not individual dealers. They just select the camera model, body style, and get their name printed on it, all done by Touptek the actual manufacturer.

Yes, I am very aware of this. I was being nice. I could have mentioned that the way it was phrased from Mallincam sounded to me as if they claimed they brought this to the industry, proving that they are the leader in the space. But I didn't.
