As promised, here is my video tutorial on how to make a simple Focal Reducer using a Binocular Lens and a 1.25" to 2" eyepiece adaptor. I have just finished making it and posting it on You Tube.
You can use a Binocular lens from 32mm to 50mm diameter.
I hope my tutorial is helpful to someone:

Nice video ken..one question ..a lot of binoculars come with tinted lenses can they be used or is it just clear ones

Thanks Davy. Use only Astronomical Binoculars. They have the correct coatings for Astronomical use. Usually UHC. Those bright yellow, orange or blue lenses you see on Bino's at sports events are pretty useless for Astro work. They actually cut transmission by up to 30% in some brands, but for terrestrial work (Football matches, Horse Racing etc) that is preferred, to cut down on glare. But for Astro work you want ONLY Astronomical coatings. That's why I make a point in the Video of saying 'Astronomical Binoculars'. And there are some quite cheap ones about. Those little 10x32's I used are from an Astro shop here in Australia and he was selling them for $10. They are proper UHC coated Astro Bino's, but he has sold out or I would have bought a few more and made free Focal Reducers for people.

Great video Ken! Easy to follow, well presented and great info too! Focal reducers with the exception of the 0.5 reducer seem to be pretty expensive! This seems like a very cost effective way of doing it Davy you should try this! Didnt you say you wanted one for the ed80?

That copyright slide is the one I have used on several of my video's and it wasn't until I watched it back on You Tube that I noticed I forgot to change the date on it I don't care what date is on it, as long as I remembered to copyright it

Chris its a cracking idea if I can track down a cheap astro bino I might do it..but you know ebay, prob deareast ones there cos your looking for them.

2nd hand shops Davy. Charity shops and such. They sometimes have old old old great grandpa's Bino's which actually have excellent optics.
I have seen very old high quality Bino's in charity shops for $2 but they are usually larger than 50mm. But I keep looking when I go near charity and 2nd hand shops.

Ahhh ok thats a good point Ken! So prob best to look for anything between 35-45mm then. I dare say there will be loads of 10 x 40's out there that should fit no prob.

Yes Chris, there are some odd sizes like 42mm, 37mm etc. 40mm does seem to be a common size though.
I am looking for a cheap source of 35mm binocs locally.
