Hello A Happy New Year to all....... Last night the Isle of Man Astronomical Society held a "Stargazing Live Event in Onchan Park in partnership with the BBC. We had 15 telescopes plus 3 binoculars setup for the folk to enjoy the nice clear skies on the night. We had well over 200 people turn up between the hours of 7 pm and 9pm. I used my SWED80 with my PD1 video camera connected via a 80mm extension tube, with a 0.5x focal reducer and moon filter, which in turn was connected to a 7" monitor on top of another tripod. The monitor was enclosed in a plastic square biscuit tin to cut down on the glare of the screen. I must say it was a good call for me to use this setup above as there was no sort of queuing up to look through the eyepiece, they was on average about 10 folk /children able to take in the wonders of the moon without the trouble of waiting in turn to view it. I am hoping to get some pictures of my setup soon when they are published in our local paper. Lots of visitors and our members were congratulating me on my setup and I was kept very busy for just over 2 hours..... I would like to thank all who helped get my setup up and running in the first place, you all know who you are!! Best Regards, Hadyn - IOM

That sounds fantastic Hadyn hopefully you have inspired some young astronomers into the hobby. Look forward to pics of the setup.
Local news here did an artical on TV and the first they went to and stayed with was a video set up and the moon on a monitor.

Well done Hadyn. Yep, probably the best Outreach tool available. And just think, no more Mascara on your expensive eyepieces ever again Hopefully the interest may also help Phil Dyer sell more of his cameras too. Good opportunity for UK residents to support a local Video Astronomy dealer.

Hello Guys Just put a couple of pics on my post at the top of the page. I tried to attach them to a new post, but I have a problem doing so. These pics are taken by one of our members who snapped a couple of shots while I was in the middle of setting up for the night... Best regards, Hadyn - IOM
