Saw this working on youtube, seems quite impressive compared to the other one I saw which I didn't like at x1024, this mkIII looks a vast improvement on image quality. must be a new camera coming out because I cant find any info on Matts website about it. even though the video as got a tint to it he did say that he was just showing on how to get no amp glow in the settings at x1024. There is a bit of video where the colour balance was set right for a few seconds and I just paused it there, all in all it looks good. www.cloudynights.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/6294632/page/0/view/collapsed/sb/5/o/all/fpart/1

There is not really any change to image quality. Just the added ability for Black Point adjustment. In the Mark II it is either on or off. The Mark III has 9 steps of graduation from on to off. I personally still believe the Astro-Video Systems cameras are way overpriced. $400 for a slightly modified LN300 or $569 for the same LN300 camera with cooling, when you can get a Mallincam Junior Pro 1/2" sensor for only $31 more (the Junior Pro is actually an Xtreme without peltier Cooling), or a highly modified and re-designed for Astro work LN300 (the Micro) for $98 (or in full kit for $169).

I kinda agree Ken. I was looking seriously at Matts APU1, but images are not readily available for evaluating. If there is no amp glow with these cams it would be great, but for the price I went for a Jr Pro. My next cam will probably be the Micro to use as a visual assisted finder.

Yeah Allan, many of us can't understand why Matt won't display images or video from his cameras. If I was trying to sell a product I'd have images and videos posted everywhere I could to help promote my product. Matt even refuses to broadcast on Night Skies Network because as he says "why, so people can pick on my cameras?". Geez, talk about lack of confidence in his own products. So far only one person has posted a video from one of Matt's cameras. Not great publicity.

without going into past posting that may have caused offence to certain parties, the supplier may be testing his goods prior to release of a upgraded camera . in the intrests of video astronomers all over the world,we hope great things can be achieved to further enhance the quality and experience of video astronomers of this forum with the development of better cameras.
.publicity of said cameras we leave to the makers and suppliers of them.. if the camera has not been promoted or reviewed then assumptions could be made in haste.
.pricing we leave to the buyer if the buyer likes the qualities of the camera and price nobody twists there arm to purchase it..
personaly I do research into any equipment I buy and trust impartial reviews and videos of the goods im after, some times you get it wrong,,
IF YOU FEEL AN ITEM DOES NOT COME UP TO THE STANDARD ADVERTISED THEN PLEASE TAKE THIS UP WITH THE SUPPLIER
If a member has bought a new camera and wish,s to leave a review we have a section for this.

I fully agree Davy and no offence meant to Matt at all. I really wanted to try a APU1 but they are not available to us yet. The spec and modifications on the cams sound great and if they live up to expectations they will be much sought after. The APU1 was actually my first choice.
As I am fairly new to electronically assisted viewing, I have no brand loyalty and no axe to grind. I simply buy what is available at the price I want to pay. I may still buy one when they are more readily available.

I hope Matt's cameras do come up to his claims. We need more good cameras for Video Astronomy.
The Stellacams are old Tech and Mallincams are advancing in Tech all the time. Choice is what people need, from cheap to top shelf and everywhere in between.
