Hi all just a heads up, Stargazing Live starts on Tuesday 7th on BBC2, you can submit your own work and you never know it may be shown. As far as I know they have never mentioned video astronomy yet! Its a great show over three nights. Depending on weather Outside the UK it can be watched on BBC Iplayer. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b019h4g8Carl

One of their camera men has a Mallincam Xtreme and they did try to use it in the last series I believe. He did a write up in some magazine and again this is how I learnt about the Mallincam as he was full of praise. How do you summit your work I could not see anything? I would send them a few images as you just never know! Cheers Karl

We're doing a open night again at our local club if the weather lets us, so people can come along and do some observing with our own and the clubs equipment. The last stargazing Live we did was hectic, so many people turned up who have never looked thru a scope and we recruited quite a lot of new members because of it.
Same was for a presentation with Dr. Chris North, BBC presenter on the Sky At Night program, we had to use a school hall for that to accommodate all the people as our club holds about 60 people seated.

Sounds like fun John. Hundreds of people lined up to peer into that strange little eyepiece, each one needing to re-focus for their eyesight, smearing mascara all over the eyepiece glass, moving the scope, and staying too long to look so the others in line start getting fed up waiting. Yep, sounds like our public nights Isn't it soooo much easier throwing a Video Astronomy view up on a monitor for them all to see at the same time, in full colour Our club has a PC connected projector so the VA view can be thrown up on our large screen or taken outside and projected onto the side of the building. That keeps their smeary eyes off the eyepieces and gives them far better views.

Ken the problem I've found is the sessions are to short, we have the use of a community centre to hold our meetings, but we have to shut up shop at 9.30pm at the latest, and the start time is officially 7.30pm because another group is using it before us. We use the car park for the viewing area and I try to go down early about 6.15pm and try and get a free space in the car park if possible and set it up before the main bunch arrive.
Sometime it feels that no sooner you've set everything up its time to dismantle everything.
I was thinking about getting one of those 12v mini pocket projectors and a screen but then it would add a bit more time for setting everything up and down. I'm usually the last one to leave because of all the tackle I need to have for video

That's a real bummer John.
Is there no park or somewhere else that the council will let you use for longer hours?

Didnt think it was that good to be honest.... Hated that Saturn woman! Very Annoying. Love everything Brian Cox does tho...the guy is amazing. Did anyone else notice that the live views they showed of the planets (Jupiter & Mars) looked decent at best. Think the BBC need to invest in a decent video camera As far as astronomy / VA goes from last nights show...I just kept getting the feeling that anyone of us here on this forum could have given better views of the skies than what they showed us! The pics of M31 were so so bad lol! The northern lights in norway was cool tho. And that presenter would get it lol

That said, the show is responsible for my now ridiculous addiction to star gazing and serious lack of spondoolies!!
