a second hand chinese lathe was used as the milling head
the jig was made from bits of angle etc, the aluminium dovetails lying in front.
the jig bolted to cross slide with aluminium plate secured to moving table, the dovetail cutter is in the lathe chuck.[an auto-lock type chuck would have stopped cutter slip]
quick traverse mechanism
the rear of machine showing vertical lift mechanism ratchets
a general view
an offcut from the aluminium bar marked off for making radius brackets,[the bandsaw was too old, had to resort to hacksaw and elbow grease]. apologies to wallace and gromit. john.

thanks for the comments and encouragements everybody, i'm still halfway through making the radius brackets. forming the radii by rubbing the sawn out brackets on rough abrasive strip attached to wooden formers with diameters to suit 12 inch and 10 inch ota's. the next step is anodising the aluminium dovetails, has any one had experience of doing this at home, i'm led to believe it's not as dangerous as some electro-plating and de-scaling operations seen on u-tube videos, using horrendous acids, i remember a "few" years back,a workmate ending up in hospital after breathing in gas from pickling paste he was using to clean welds on a stainless steel canopy. john.

ken, i've picked up a second hand gateros kit localy from a guy who i think was working out of his kitchen sink[very small stuff]. the instructions have got a few warnings, and included eye protection and rubber gloves. i'll read the instructions after i've made the brackets, might have to buy extra bits when i'm ready for it. john.

thanks rick for the safety caution, by the way, making these dovetails would be a lot easier and quicker if i had a workshop and an old industrial cincinnati universal milling machine, we can only dream. john.
