New camera ordered. .the multi badged camera lol.. I dont know how different from the mallincam version it is..but at this price it was worth a go. £135 delivered. This will go on my off axis guider and be used as a video camera while my canon dslr takes astrophotographs hopefully. On my portable set up. On my eq3/2 pro I would use it as a guider .This camera fills a void in my camera collection. www.modernastronomy.com/shop/qhy-guide-cameras/qhy5l-ii-colour/

They'll have to make the camera body larger so they can fit more writing on it

I downloaded drivers and software from altair astro..this will open a debate im shure. its a trial to see if the qhy I bought will operate on the software and drivers. Downloaded fire capture as well.
will be a wee learning curve I have been analouge only up to now.. This camera will a toe in the water ..seeing how this stacking ect changes things ..oh you can be shure there will be a lengthy report on this

I like my AGc a lot. I used it for the supermoon and for some solar as well. Got ok results for deep sky too.
Its fun because its easy and light.
I am hoping I can put into my Son's scope and let him mess about. He turns 11 on Sunday.

Yes it's tiny, got cameta tonight. camera came in a nice tin case instead of the carboard boxes ive seen on some sites. unboxed kit few thing that can and should be looked at.
parfocal ring has a small plastic screw to secure to camera ..ok .its so it dosent scratch camera..just looks very flimsy.
The nose piece to fit camera to telescope is wrong thread .. going on camera locks up half way down thread and takes a good bite..good luck getting that off after it being on a while.
Will try hooking up to laptop tonight and check operation.

Update.. Installed all the software that came with the qhy camera, I can confirm that the altair astro software is not compatible it wont recognise the camera, i think there must be a command in the camera chip software that prohibits it's interface. I tried the sharpcap last night..new 2.5 version and it is compatible as said and looks easy to use..further testing required on scope..

Plastic screw is ewww! I'd be nervous about the tight fittings, too. Hopefully it delivers on some decent images!

update.done the skywatcher allview mount ,ed80 with an off axis guider and a canon 600d the new cam sat on the top of the off axis guider,,no distant views from the back garden only up or a street lamp,so I lined up on it and could see the light shine on screen,,done a two star alignment and pointed scope to the largest cluster of stars,,just could not find the focal point with the camera,,tried for half an hour then decided to derig and set up for astrophotography. set scope up in house today and focussed on trees about 30ft away tried all my adapters till I got an image,,so camera works,,need a decent night to move to night testing,,sharpcap looks the best out of the ones ive tried ,,,need to read up on it,, this is the astrophotography image I ended up with 3 long exposure images stacked and tweeked in ps7 Andromeda galaxy need more practice,,better than walking away with nothing in freezing cold for 3 hours

The QHY cam uses a different sensor than what's in the GPcam and Altair cam's, they have the ARO 130 sensors which is more sensitive than the MT sensors you have in the QHY and my Inova camera.
Was sat next to Robin author of Sharpcap on the stand and was demonstrating the latest version which is not out yet and it as some very nice new features which I think will be a big hit. Karl did a video of the demo, just needs a bit of editing. Some of the features coming out are de-rotation for Alt/Az mounts and I suppose for EQ mounts which are not properly aligned, Focusing without a mask but using contrast, and dark field subtraction

Cheers for the info john..I never looked that deep into specks of sensors..I went via budget route, I will be happy to get stars ect and because sharp cap supports it for lx mode ect it gives me the practice to go with the theory of external integration software.. I see it has script feature that the program can be adapted by developers..it looks good to me ..
