Hi guys..splashed out on a second hand canon 450d to get live view option that my canon 400d didn't have... question the camera can send live view via a cable to a tv / monitor, if I put it to a usb grabber to my laptop and set to record and link to camera ..would I get what I see with camera ?

Ordered the cable so will find out soon..on bulb mode you can get live view till shutter depressed, would have been a great feature if it kept it enabled..controlled live view exposure

hi john,,the live view on the lcd on the camera can only be done on the first settings down to auto mode,,you then press ok to get image on the lcd.. yeah to your link very thing I was thinking about,,but thought I was nuts,,i was going to connect to the usb grabber to allow me to record the image..the principle to me sounded ok but you have now confirmed it it..cheers.. next step is how will it perform on a scope..usb grabber is 25fps if I remember correctly.. think it will be good on lunar and planetary..tried the camera in bulb mode but when the shutter is opened it cuts live view to lcd..how cool would that be unlimited intregration live

Davy someone on NSN used a cannon, not sure of the name but he was from the UK, not sure if it was RAY_UK or KEN_UK and he was doing DSO's with it
Are you using the EOS software?

Your most likely right, I've never owned a cannon, just what I seen on utube and read about

Installed the canon software..wow its good on remote control via laptop Hi, I own several Nikon & Canon DSLR's plus heaps of lenses both digital and from my film camera days. The Canon software that comes with all Canon DSLR cameras is very comprehensive. The camera control software is excellent and I use it regularly to control my Canon's 350D (Peltier cooled and Baader Filter mods), 450D x2 both modified, one is a Mono,(de-Bayered) one is a colour) Canon 7D.- Nikon D50 modified to Infra Red), D100, D200, D300, D700FX, D600FX, D5100 DX. Too many!
A very important point, with Nikon, you have to pay extra for their good image processing software $250.00 plus another $250.00 for their camera control software, which is all included FREE with Canon gear. Another point, Canon control software will control the camera without a lens attached, i.e when used in a telescope, Nikon does not allow the same level of control if the camera does not have a lens attached.!!
I have two Meade SN-10 f/4 Schmidt Newtonian's, thinking of using both 450D cameras one on each scope aimed at the same target taking images simultaneously-on the same mount.
Also note, live view only remains of for very short periods then turns off with most DSLR's.
Clear skies... Shevill
