Hi guys..picked up a nice bit of kit last week..we fitted a reverse camera kit to a vehicle and I was impressed with the style of monitor and how good the image on it was and decided to get one..managed to get the monitor separate £14 ,, 4.3" fold away monitor, this to me is a great screen for fitting at the scope end to test focus ect, I have even thought about mounting on top of a camera..it comes with twin av inputs. .im shure I can find a use fir it.

Great minds, Davy!! I just got one 2 weeks ago for $30 US. Only bad thing was that it didn't have a wiring diagram and it has this ground wire hanging out and I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with it. I've searched all over and cannot find documentation for a version that has this wire hanging out!

How many wires does it have Rick? Yellow = video input / Black/red = power
maybe the loose black wire is for ground when you mount it to a vehicle or it goes to the live side of reverse light to power up the camera when you engage reverse.
I would just wire the first 3 wires up and see if it power's up

Sorry been so wrapped up in work and other stuff that I totally forgot to post it... I'm so sorry! The red plug is the power but the purple ground wire is just hanging out! So I'm concerned if its not attached to something that it could burn out a wallwart.

Rick, I have been investigating your purple wire problem (thank you Google). It appears that you have a switching monitor that is designed to wire up to a car audio system that switches the Monitor on when you put the car into reverse. It gets wired up to the Purple reversing wire on the back of units like this one: www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/assets/ProductImages/Sony_XAV-64BT_rear.jpgYou need a simple reversing monitor without the extra switching wire. They are the most common sort. Yours is actually the first one I have ever seen with the extra wire.

Dang, I wonder if I could trick it somehow. Trial and error apparently the other end of that purple wire in the car Radio/CD/GPS is connected through to the reverse switch in a cars gearbox (or the Shifter switch in an Auto), so it is probably as simple as connecting 12 volts to it.

If it is a reserse gear trigger just either fit it direct to your 12v but may req a switch fitted to it to switch it off.
