Hi,
Two of my eclipse chaser friends Robert & Helen Lucas, a dedicated pair of eclipse chasers, sent me one of their total solar eclipse images, from the frozen north at Svalbard, Norway, here is what Helen wrote:
"We were very privileged to view an eclipse with such clarity and such brilliance. We couldn't have asked for a clearer sky. Both diamond rings were unbelievable. This photo was taken by Rob of course and given how cold it was (minus 22 degrees) I think he has taken a photograph to be proud of.
I can't begin to tell you how cold it was - a lot of cameras froze so not many people got more than a few photos. But the back drop of the icy mountains down to the arctic bay provided plenty to distract us from the cold plus the hot currant wine and pancakes."
On many solar eclipse expeditions they join up with Professor Jay Pasachoff (http://www.nationalgeographic.com/explorers/bios/jay-pasachoff/) world renown eclipse expert.

I hope many of you in the UK had some success as well, knowing the UK weather, it could be tricky!

Shevill I think this image was shown on the BBC National News over here. Hi Ken, Quite possibly, Rob is part of Fred Espenek's Eclipse Chasers team, they travel the globe going to every solar eclipse. I have seen it elsewhere on FB without attributes! Robert Lucas is a Sydney University physicist/astronomer, he comes down to my obs from time to time to do joint astro science projects as I seem to have a lot of the appropriate gear. His wife, Helen, sings and plays piano as does my better half, so we have good times when they visit Tasmania. picasaweb.google.com/109921669020426367250/JupiterVenusSunDaytimeOccultation?authuser=0&feat=directlinkRipper of a day, clear skies and sunburn weather.
Kind Regards,Shevill
