Hi all,
It is regrettable that we have to write this statement, but due to some foolish behavior by someone from within our community, we feel we have no choice.
It has been brought to our attention that a malicious email was recently sent to the management of NSN. The email apparently requested that 6 NSN members be deleted as they have also joined or applied to join Video Astronomy Live. We have confirmed with NSN that this malicious mail did not emanate from our site and we would NEVER ask for anyone to be deleted from any astronomy site, ever.
We are at a complete loss as to why any member of the astronomy community would go to such lengths to carry this act out. Whomever this person is, they have clearly attempted to discredit our site and cause issues between ourselves and NSN that simply should not exist.
This individual should have a good long think about their interest in the hobby which is at the end of the day all we are talking about here, a hobby! Attempting to disrupt relations, cause division or trying to sensor a person’s freedom of choice to join whatever site they wish should have no place anywhere in this community. Whoever did this should be completely ashamed and we will do all that is possible to route this person out.
No matter what happens now, this person has created bad feeling and we are now talking about damage limitation. We know there will be some who will always be suspicious and that makes us feel pretty angry to say the least. However, we would like to point out a number of common sense facts as to why this email would not have come from us. Firstly, why on earth would we want anyone within the community to mistrust us? We are entirely self-funded, we do not answer to anyone nor do we intend to. Therefore, other than our pride that others may like our work and want to take part, it makes no difference to us whether we have one channel or a thousand channels we still continue. In addition, we have more than 6 channels who also have a channel on NSN – it does not make sense that only 6 channels would be targeted for deletion?
As mentioned previously, it is regrettable to have had to issue this statement but we only hope this goes some way to clearing this matter up. We hope that everyone can now move on and continue to enjoy this hobby on whatever platform they choose.
Please note: we have only been informed about this malicious email and are yet to see it ourselves. However, we are told it was from someone called Dennis Calls and that this person's IP address generates from Indiana. If you have any suspicions as to who may be responsible, please could you inform us and NSN so we can take the appropriate action.
Thank you for your time,
The Team – Video Astronomy Live
