Hi,
For ten years I have struggled with the rack & pinion focuser and image shift on my Takahashi FS-102 (4") APO refractor, and during this time I have made and fitted a stepper motor controlled as an add-on, which works fine but since I changed the piggy back system, it does no longer fit. For high powers one needs a precise focus feel. I took the plunge and bought this beast, the 5th such purchases made over many years from Ron Newman, whom I know and am more that satisfied with his products. The design, fit & finish is sheer pleasure to look at and use. With the Takahashi adaptor and extender base, it can use all my Tak accessories, focal reducer, 3x Telenegative set, etc, and no vignetting with a large format DSLR
Now I have a decision to make, do I fit this 2.5" beast on the little Tak, or use it on my 16" Newtonian still under construction but nearing completion, or do I buy another one with a flat base plate? At around $AU650 and the dollar exchange getting worse???? Comments:
This motor has a clutch and will lift far more than I will use.
Two finder brackets, standard flat one for the Takahashi, and a standard dovetail.
Threaded 2.5" to 2" and 1.25" adapters makes for a rigid rock solid fit for every attachment.
Motor Focus controller has two outputs so cane be used to control two units for the cost of one, a brilliant idea as I have other Moonlite units mounted on the same big fork piggybacked on the 12", saves having two units in hand.
Solid DC drive. The Extender Based is removable and also allows for rotation of entire unit to suit how components fit etc. Would not be required on my Newtonian, but it came at no cost as did the Takahashi adapter.
Takahashi adapter allows use of all my Takahashi accessories, big focal reducer, 3x Telenegative set, plus my Baader Click Stop EP holders.
Note threads on adapters keeps everything concentric and solid.
Internal threads on main 2.5" diameter tube.
