Hello, Am i missing something or is there no way of seeing when someone is going to broadcast in the future? Hi Nev, Sometimes you'll get the occasional heads up particularly from Ken but normally it's a case of popping in to see who's on. Due to unpredictable weather it's not something you can really plan too far in advance. Cheers Karl

Fair enough, we are at the mercy of the weather. But i could see at lot more attendance if people 'advertised' a potential broadcast at x date/x time.. it can always be cancelled last minute due weather? sorry, im probably a little 'too' keen at the moment

We need a blinkin campaign!

Been tried many many times and so far, over about 3 years, it hasn't worked well Yeah, it's a real hit and miss hobby this Astronomy caper I have pre-announced about 30 times in 2 years, and actually ended up broadcasting a lot less than half of those. Same with others. They announce it in the Yahoo Mallincam Group but nothing eventuates. later you find out that it was weather, family matters, technical difficulties etc that prevented it. But I do agree, some sort of Programme Guide would be good if it was possible. See who will be on, and when.

There would be plenty of ways of doing it. From calendars to 'upcoming' lists.
Good thing about having it intergrated into a website is that the broadcaster can put it in there local time and the other members will see it in their time zone (assuming it's selected in the users profile -depends on website design).
Most viewers would be aware if the difficulties and the fact that it doesn't actually occur is less of a negative than randomly refreshing the NSN in hope something might be on. If you have the ability to update the calendar with 'cancelled' no one is left guessing.
On the flip side, you also now have a handy set of stats that people can view of how regular broadcasts are made and from where!

Jim is making some really big changes to NSN, but he is keeping much of it secret at the moment. But he has hinted about something like Forum style notices. Maybe that could be a way to do it.

What might work, is a site that's linked to NSN and has a list of all the registered broadcasters on there, something like whats on NSN now. maybe Jim could be incorporated into NSN
And you go to your profile '' snake valley'' click on it and it sends out a email to all the registered viewers and broadcasters that your broadcasting.
most people nowadays have their email account on their cell phones if your not at the computer.

Only problem with emails to members, without a public calender, is that you lose any potential new members / viewers.
An option to have an email sent when a broadcast starts could be good.
If the NSN webmaster isn't interested it doesn't mean you couldn't have have the calender on another website with links to NSN and if it's successful I'm sure it would be linked on NSN to your website as it is primary use is for advertising NSN /video astromogy.
As a further intergration option, you could have it record details of scope/mount/location etc and automatically attach to images taken during the broadcast for storage on the website. When a broadcast is created have any/all information you would want, entered in a simple form. Have the ability for the broadcasters to upload images to this created 'event', the information is attached and stored automatically in galleries.
Centralising information and making it easy for the broadcasters and website managers well create greater 'user' generated content and overall greater interest.

Will be interesting to see if a workable solution to this can be found.
I guess just posting in forums is all we can do for now.

Oh! Either I have t been observant or it's new, but a calendar has appeared in the links at the top of page.
It is populated with birthdays, but I'm curious about the idea of people trying it for potential upcoming broadcasts, (even though it's weather/family dependant).
I'm not able to broadcast for a little while due to work commitments but if someone else is keen...

Excellent idea Nev.
I just tried to enter the test I want to do on NSN tonight but I can't see how to enter events onto the calendar. When I click on 'New Event' it jumps back to the Index page.
I will keep experimenting.
