With this thing... 127 eq ... lol i know i know lol and old gt one arm for tracking.
used this ccd.. from this area... can we say red zone. the red dot is where i was lol ... here is a moon lol .. how many times can we see this lol ... all in all i got the bug. plan is 1st a cgem. then new scope. 10" orion astro maybe. or get my 12" dob working with goto. mmmm anyways.. iam running on ..

good write up. .we all have to start somewhere. .now you can buiid your skills and knowledge from here.. good image...if you have photo shop software ect you can adjust ..levels..move it to the darker side and it will make it a great image.
tripod.fit a cheap r/a clock drive and thats that sorted out for tracking..a mount only needs tracking..goto a luxury lol.
camera. .sorted with cooling now..no problems.
telescope..what to buy..you have aperture fever with video astronomy we tend to look for say an 80mm fast scope to get a wider field of view..bigger scopes you end up putting focal reducers on..
keep reading and looking at images and what they were taken with..you will then decide what you wish to capture. .solar..lunar..planetary. .deepsky.. hope this helps

here it is thru a online free image editor.. pixlr.com/editor/yeah the plan was dso's from get go. globs and nebs. maybe a galx here n there.. reason i say a 10" i figure. if iam doing this once. might go for as big as i can handle with my health. i looking at a 8" newt also on a lower cost cgem. but then i think .. do i need EQ. iam doing video. and my one arm gt . to me didnt do that bad at all . i wonder how good a c8 would be. there cheap. as is 8" newt on a cgem. or a 8" on a goto dob. ooo boy ... anwyas here is the photo touched up.. this is my very 1st image. and yeah it isnt great. but hey not to bad i think? lol

turned out not bad at all..if its deep sky I would look at a 80mm doublet or triplet get as large a fov as you can..decent mount and your good yo go.. when I started astronomy I got a meade etx80 . nice scope. .aperture fever kicked in and I got a 8" newt on an eq mount. .fantastic views on the moon ect..started astrophotography using a dslr..prob being weather poor in scotland most of the time for doing long exposure imaging. .I wanted a quick fix so went video, nought a skywatcher st102 good scope but has issues with coma on bright objects. .I then went for the skywatcher ed80 and im delighted with this scope its that good I could sell the rest..so where now..a camera and a lens on a tracking mount would be nice but im going for a portable all sky set up..really dosent get any cheaper or easier than that.

davy let me ask you. do you know of anyone good with the software for the capture device ? i have a Hde easycap. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000Z4AQFU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1but some software doesnt see it. like fire something or manycams. sharpcap seen it but locks up for some reason. ill tinker later with that.. splitcam sees it but i have a red noise box on the bottom of the view area. its not the video itself. as there is a sharp cut off. between the 2. black lined. i guess this is what happens for a 2 buck grabber lol

There are better USB 2.0 devices on the market but expect to pay more like $50-$100. I personally use the Imaging Source unit but it is not cheap, more like $350, as a portable unite that I can swap between the many computers I have. I also use Black Magic capture devices, but again they are not cheap.
I pay anything up to $2000 for a camera so I don't want to produce poor results with a cheap analogue/digital converter, so on my scale $350 is not expensive, but I do appreciate beginners starting out on a budget are very limited in funds available for what for most is a hobby. These are OK: Elgato Video Capture USB Analog Video Capture Device, This has a TV tuner as well, I have used many of this manufacture over the years Hauppauge NOVA-TD USB Dual Digital Tuner + Remote. This is as low as I would go: SIIG - USB 2.0 Video Capture Device.

hello astrotasmania: if i may ask.
iam wondering. the lower end grabbers you stated. you dont off hand rememeber the software you used on them ? or the software you perfur ? i hear about the M software. bein nsn lots use it there. but to me not worth it as of yet. so the free side is good for now..
i have seen a few use the $30 to $100 range.. i dont mind spending that now that i know i will be hanging in this for a bit. that is reason why i went cheap at 1st.

Hi,
SharpCap2 is an excellent free video capture software. Depending on what you want to do HandiAVI is also excellent as it offers various capture methods, cost a few dollars but not expensive by any means. These programs will work with most capture devices. AMCAP is also a good choice.

There are a lot of third party (won't mention the country) knock off's sold cheap and basically they are crap, don't work, the price is a good indicator.

Mine goes at the end of the nosepiece. So yes, mine goes on last. I don't generally use more than one filter at a time, but then again, I don't have any others.
