Hi, Managed a few minutes on the sun late morning, nice prominence and lots of other activity. Took a few quick & dirty still shots with a Nikon D5100 DSLR for a change. Nothing fancy at all. I also used various other digital astro cameras colour & mono, with better results, but still on the PC in the obs! Seeing not bad but sun down in the winter weeds and the exposures are too long at less than tenth of a second, to beat the seeing.
Clear skies...

Nice grabs Shevill. I saw this on GONG as I was having my first morning coffee. I always check the solar activity every morning. The prom looked spectacular and I couldn't wait to get home at lunchtime for a look, but sadly it was gone from the limb. Thanks for the view.

Looks great Shevill! Do you ever broadcast? Would be nice to see this in HD SDI one day!

Looks great Shevill! Do you ever broadcast? Would be nice to see this in HD SDI one day! Hi Ken,
We are on really old copper wires with very slow ADSL. We are also the last physical connection on the pair sharing line. The NBN started rollout just a few km down the road but went in the opposite direction! No hope of NBN here. Trying to upload is not easy and in previous global broadcasts for the Discovery Channel, it has required all sorts of temporary fixes arranged through Victoria and my ISP.
These images do look fantastic in HD-SDI but I suspect they would be so downgraded trying to go live. The past few weeks, the Telstra techs have had all the pits open along the main road re-terminating hundreds of cable ends. Every time we get heavy rains, we lose our phone/internet connection. We are semi rural on a 5-acre block, my phone line is a standard two pair phone cable 100 m long laid over the rocks and covered by a few inches of mud stone dust that passes for soil. Really high tech stuff! Cambridge is a very old village, lovely rural setting, minutes from both optical & radio telescopes run by the Uni, which I am involved with. picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/vQV3WdMurl2wyMPhNRsy9dMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink
Clear skies... Shevill X marks my observatory location, however we do pay a price in some ways, I will never get the NBN to X, even though the Tasmanian roll-out started just a few km away, but going in the opposite direction .
