G'day Paul. Personally I don't care how they compare, as long as they work I was very annoyed with all that argy-bargy between the two brands. I have a Mallincam and I like it. But that doesn't mean it is better just because I own one I am not a brand loyalist. If a product works well for me I am happy, and mine does. You don't have to wait until you get your camera. Come on down and use one of mine. My Sammy 4000 is sitting here unused. It needs some use It's now school holidays if that helps you at all (if you normally have kids to get to and pick up from school). One club member is camping over with his kids on these holidays for a few nights. He wants to get into Video too Come on down any night you want, and practice with my camera. Chuck up a tent if you want. Bring a caravan. Stay in the Clubhouse. Stay a week. I don't care, just get on down here

Now there is an offer you don't get every day. If only I lived a little closer. lol
If I were you paul, I would try and pick up a cheap Sammy 2000 or similar to play with until the APU-1 arrives. You may have a bit of a wait. It will keep you motivated.

Ken are you throwing in airline tickets, if they're return flights as well I might think about it.

astrotasmania, can you show me an example of the kind of images you have gotten from the cameras you wrote about? Those prices are UNREAL ! Also, where on that site did you pick up the 12v power adapters?
Thanks!

Richard. it would be interesting to see sample images from this camera. If it was that good a few photos are excellent selling points. I always wonder about cameras when they never show just how well they work.
At those pixels (14.0 MP) it would only be a Planetary/Lunar camera at best. No way will it do DSO's unless they mean in it's 'imaging' mode which makes it like a DSLR. A Long Exposure Imaging camera. The Video mode would do the Planets and Moon.
Also, if it was good for Astro work it would be on Astronomy sites and talked about. Hundreds of people constantly test and review cameras suitable for Astro and if a useful one comes along we all hear about it pretty quick.
In reality it sounds like a multi mega pixel webcam.
Something else I notice. It is CMOS not CCD.

hi. hope you have better luck with them than we did, they joined the forum not long after I created it and started posting adverts for there company, they were told to stop, and they did.. they offered discounts ect but no percentage,,we offered tech info in what was required for them to break into the astronomy market,we also offered to test equipment and review it for a decent discount to members, nothing came of any of it, they continued to use here to gather information and string us along..they have been the only member to be banned from here ever, they just were in it for them and what they could get out of it.. they offered us tech info, but if this was the case why ask us for tech specs we required if they knew it all
