Finished the mod..cut it down to one 90mm fan on top casing and large heatsink peltier and 80mm fan on bottom dont think peltier is working. .fans are keeping camera very cool....fair bit of weight with the large heatsink. ... Would I recommend doing..prob not..I think if you could fabricate a bit to mount the 90mm fan it would do a great job..peltier cooler ive bought about five and they dont last or very fragile... Thread closed. ..

Davy did you use any thermal paste on the peltier and heatsink ? if not that could be the problem of the peltier's blowing

Could sell you the paste..bought tons of it during the various builds..when I get a minute im going to pull it apart and make a new top case and mod it to take a 90mm fan.

The Samsung peltier mod dead in the water now..so it's time to get the camera back to a condition I can use. .the previous mod has been removed and its back to bare bones camera... this mod will now go back to a previous mod... top casing has a 40mm x 40mm fan fitted to the top and an 18mm x 18mm fan mounted either side of top casing.. main body of camera will have a 40mm x 40mm fan fitted behind the lens board...all fans are set to draw hot air from camera previous testing using a fluke temp sensor on my fluke meters showed a lower internal camera temperature with the fans set to draw hot air out of camera rather than blowing ambient air into the camera snag one..focus ring on camera siezed and threads damaged removing ring..I used the ring to hold previous mod body to camera...gluing the c mount direct to camera body at present.. fans been tested an are ok.. so its a waiting game for glue to dry, using evostik instant bond glue. instant bonding it aint.

Keep us informed Davy 'evostik instant bond glue' sounds like our 5 minute Araldite. Mix part A and Part B and it sets in 5 minutes.

Thats the nose piece glued up ok..glued internal 40mm fan in place and glued a rocker switch to top casing to control the fans..the internal boards have been sprayed up with pcb lacquer to protect it more now there are more holes in casing..18 mm fans have a bit of a gap where they wont go flush with casing these are being sealed with glue .once its all built I will get the air brush out and paint it after tidying up with dremmel and sanding disk. Waiting on glue drying again. . im taking photos and will post later

Don't forget to tie the Sammy to focuser with a safety strap or something so if the glued nosepiece fails, the cam won't hit the ground.

Must be nice to only have 5 minutes travel to get to the shops. It's almost a day trip for me But I suppose with close shops comes light pollution. I'd rather the long travel

5 minutes travel time is long here Ken. Generally, you can't throw a stone from your garden without hitting a shop window. There is one on every corner.

Hi, From what I see on UK TV programs, the country must have shops from every nationality around the world? Was it once called a nation of shop keepers? I would be utterly lost if I ever visited. I left in 1968 and have never been back. Lived in the outskirts of Leeds, Headingley, but the agro that started in Bradford and getting closer to home, was a signal to move to southern skies, clean air and space to move around. This is from my postcard collection, I reckon 1920's-1930's era judging by cards I have of similar vintage. The card legend is mind bending. Clear skies... Shevill

thanks shevill.....I done quite a few mods and testing on the scb2000 over last couple of years,,research was mind numbing at the time,,learning about peltiers, thermal shock, cold fingers ect...building protypes and testing and stripping down again and trying more aventurous mods..the latest was just to keep it cool,,i hade a twin 40mm fan set up on previous one internal and one on top and had good case temp results, I have now added the two 18mm fans, so should be even better, the peltier mod was just becoming a monster build and the latest peltier failure made me go for a simpler solution that was compact..as you well know reducing the temp even by one degree makes a vast diverence..i done a lot of testing using sharpcap and without cooling it dropped a lot of frames over a 15min test when camera had been running for half an hour, with the cooling mod on instantly after hot test the camera never dropped one frame,,proof enough for me that cooling the camera is a winner. lol..I had looked at water cooling mod myself but thought I was taking it too far,,i see great minds think alike..great mods sir,,hat off to you..davy

Indicator silica gel in little packets were also kept inside the camera to absorb moisture.
No astronomers were injured during the making of this modification-LOL
Clear skies... Shevill
