Hi all here is a comparison of the Optics UHC filter, puchased from Ebay. The scope used was a Skywatcher 150p, Samsung 2000p at X512 integration. The target The dumbell. Both are unprocessed. I have found although the filter does greatly increase the contrast it has the effect of strongly inhancing the green spectrum. The advantage is it does desimate sodium lights

WoW Carl, this post sure does show the difference. The top image really shows the Nebula well, whereas the bottom one is lost in the light pollution. Yep, that UHC filter certainly does its job Thanks for the report.

Guys i can see more colour in the bottom pic. The top pic seems to have removed every bit of red. It does bring out a lot more of the faint detail in the middle tho

Yes, the stars are also much better in the bottom image. But the nebula is washed out. In the top image many of the stars are washed out but the nebula is brighter.
Hmmmmm . . .

Yes I totally agree wipes out the red spectrum this would be fine for visual. I took a shot of the Ring a while back and it was the same. They do appear to be a compromise.

Is that expected? To remove all the red when using a UHC?
Any idea what effect a OIII filter would provide? Ive been considering buying either a UHC or OIII for a while now.

Chris you need to use a UHC filter that also will allow the Ha to enter along with OIII & Hb and the only two that I would strongly recommend is #1 Astronomiks UHC #2 Astronomik UHC-E or Baader UHC-S. Forget the Optics UHC filter or the Lumicon UHC.
