Carl - Nah mate no hub. Just using this cable www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-10M-32FT-USB-2-0-Active-Repeater-Extension-Cable-Lead-480Mbps-UK-STOCK-/130802155841?pt=UK_Computing_USB_Cables&hash=item1e746a8141&clk_rvr_id=644352975249Patrick - Glad you worked out your issue! Im not using my mac for astronomy purposes but i intend using it if i go to a dark site so this info might help me in the future! John - Thats a very good shout btw… thinking back i have actually seen this issue before… When i first started VA and was using the wee netbook. I faced the same issue when the hard drive was almost full!! My pc is setup as a 80gb SSD and 2x 500gb hdd. Ive set it so that all captures i take go into one of the 500gb drives. It still has like 450gb space left.... But I'm thinking the 80gb drive is almost full! I think i installed the software on the ssd… so that could very well be the source of the issue!!

Hi Johno,
I use solid state hard drives in all my capture PC's they leave a standard HD far behind. Could not use anything else for my 1080 x 1920 HD-SDI cameras.

Hi Shevill I use ssd drives but mainly just have my operating system on it
I have nearly the same configuration as you Chris on my desktop pc, 120gb ssd which as mainly windows and a few software programs on it and 1tb hd partitioned off into 2 500gb.
but I use a laptop for VA which doesn't have a ssd just 1tb drive and I might have the same problem as you when my new camera arrives. The spec isn't to bad on the laptop, i5 8gb ram and 2 gb video card so I hope that will not be a bottleneck.

Things to keep in mind with these cameras, trying to capture at those higher resolutions is vastly different to capturing the analogue video 720x540 whatever and laptops are not the best option. Usually they have less RAM, and only a 5400 spin drive, unlike a desktop with a 7200 spin, all these things come into play, including the USB.2.0 limitations. I have had to move up to USB 3.0, solid state hard drives and 32BG of fast ram for my higher res cameras trying to capture at 25 or 30 FPS. In higher resolutions files sizes are measured in gigabytes, not megabytes.
These are some of the problems that people will be faced with and will need to understand, nothing wrong with the camera's, it is the PC end where the bottle necks start. I have been doing this since 1988, so have grown up with cameras & computer integration.
Not all USB 2.0 chipsets/hardware software are up to spec either, laptops are also limited in the power supply to cameras unless plugged into the mains. The joys of astro video, an interesting learning curve all the way.
I will load up my various machines with the driver for my mono version and do some capture size speed tests on various drives, including a Raptor 10,000 spin drive.
Clear skies... Shevill

Btw the maker of this cam is doing a beta test of the new usb 3.0 mono camera that does 70 fps apparently. He was looking for testers for it. They get the cam half price at $200. Seen it on the yahoo group. Considered asking to be a tester but I just got this cam and not looking to spend any more cash at the minute.

looks like I'm going to have put up with it, because I'm not going to hump my desktop up and downstairs, I'll do a few tests when the camera comes between the two pc's and see how much of a difference there is.
