Hello Chaps,
Just looking into cameras for my boy's bird house as I'm planning to fit something with him next weekend. There does not seem to be a lot of option out there so I was wondering if I may get some ideas here. I could just get him the cheap one that seems to be the only offering on line but thought there may be something with a bit better quality. Needs to be very small, preferably with low light capability (not LED) and possibly with a built-in mic.
Any ideas welcome or the cheapie gets it

Web cam would be better faster frame rate and better..other than that a nanny cam would be a shout out.

Not sure of the construction of your birdbox, but bear in mind its a bit dark in there. If you don't have them, I would advise drilling a 2" or similar hole on each side and cover with an opaque lens. Something like a bycicle reflector or something similar to a pringle cap would do to let a bit of light in. As for the cam, anything tiny that will work in low light. Mount it in the roof space looking down.

Thanks guys, I have been looking cameras like this one www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BIRD-HEDGEHOG-WILDLIFE-CAMERA-KIT-5M-CCTV-BIRD-BOX-HOUSE-NESTER-/170977880557i guess I'm over complicating things but I was (thinking rather selfishly) there may be something that could also be used for VA when not looking at little birdies! I may tell mummy that the Micro is the best option! Good tip too Allan I will do that as the bird house I have just has the usual little hole so it would be very dark inside.

don't get me going on this
the other half as been pestering me to set one up in one of the bird boxes, so last week I got a kit, arrived Friday morning returned back to them Friday within 3hrs. camera does not work .
www.spycameracctv.com/spycamera/wireless-birdbox-day-night-hidden-camera-receiver
must say they were good about it and emailed me the RMA No.and paid postage label within minutes
tested it with my tackle and found the camera is dead. could be the wireless that's not working. I don't think the image is going to be up to much because the camera has only 380 lines. there is better camera's out there.
Yes you need to make a hole in the box to let some light in and cover it with a piece of clear Perspex and rough it up a bit with some fine sand paper. this camera has 6 IR led's so will test it before I start making holes in it. i'll report back when I get it back.
I went wireless because I didn't want cables all over the place, plus I can connect it to one of the spare laptops using my wireless grabber

I think I'll just get the same one as you though I'll have wired. I have the sockets outside already anyway and with wireless I'd need to keep the box nearby to power it.

Now she's doing my head in, she wants another 2 camera's , 1 on the bird feeder table and another all view cam for the garden.
my fault really, this morning I set up the CR6 with 80-200mm lens on a mini tripod with the wireless transmitter on the kitchen window sill looking out over the back garden at one of the bird boxes up high in a tree
about 80ft away which belongs to the next door neighbour, and she's sat in the lounge with the laptop, So she had a real good close up of the entrance, well that did it, now she wants a squirrel box, and a robin box
and if she doesn't shut up I'll put her in a bloody box permanently

Any updates on the birdbox cams. Who got what and how is it working. We have one at the school, but it only shows a still image every 20 secs and the pic quality as dire. The depth of field is so small that if you get an eye in focus the rest of the image is blurred.

For more than a year, every time I was broadcasting, my missus and son lost internet and because they saw it as my thing, they let me continue broadcasting and they selflessly went without internet. And back 3 years ago when this was happening, we had clear skies for probably 5 out of every 7 nights, and I was broadcasting on those 5 good nights every week. As you can imagine, every time I set up and started broadcasting I could hear the moan from the Loungeroom and my sons bedroom: "AAGGHHH! Dad's broadcsting again!!!" What was happening? I bought one of those wireless cameras about 3 years ago and placed it onto my finderscope. It wasn't until over a year later, by sheer accident, that I worked out that it was the Wireless camera killing the internet for them It was cancelling out their Wi-Fi I was hard-wired in with Cat5 so it didn't affect me. All that time and all I had to do was turn the off finderscope camera after I did my 3 star alignment and all would have been good but I used to leave it on, not knowing it was the problem. Once it was discovered, I fitted it into the Guitar shop I worked in at the time so we could see customers walk in the front door while we were out the back fixing guitars Beware of Wireless cameras that operate on the same frequency as Wi-Fi

jeez, I bet you were popular when they found out why they had no internet for a year. Let's just say they weren't impressed Allan I would switch on at about 7pm for setting up, camera check, star alignments, etc, then leave it all running, ready to use, and go have my shower, eat Dinner, and watch TV until about 9pm, and then go back to the computer and broadcast through till 3 - 4 am each night. So they lost it for the whole night each time. The silly part is I only needed that camera on for about 3 minutes while doing my 3 star alignment. But it's worth mentioning here what happened so anyone getting a wireless camera can check that their Wi-Fi still works when the camera is on. It has a wide range so it would kill neighbours Wi-Fi too Luckily I don't have any neighbours.

The depth of field is so small that if you get an eye in focus the rest of the image is blurred. I use two Philips SPC900NC Webcams in my observatory. One is mounted on the back of a modified Mallincam VSS +. The Mallincam integration setting knob is motorized for remote control and the Philips looks at the number settings on the knob. The other Philips is mounted on a spare Meade LX200 fork mount and is used for viewing around inside the observatory during a remote session. The Philips focus close up and at a distance. Their light only comes on when you are viewing with the camera. They work well in low light so you might even be able to block the light so as not ot bother the birds. They can be viewed with any video software I use. I have not tried them in a birdhouse but they would work very well and as an added bonus they are great little astro webcams. They are still available on ebay There is a photo of my Meade with the modified VSS on the third page of my observatory website www.mts.net/~lmlod/Observatory.htmlLdB

actually, I have a Toucam pro II. If I can get a board lens to focus, I'll test it in the dark.

I also have this wee thing, but haven't a clue what to do with it. Can anyone explain the wiring instruction in simple language.
