I'm loving the first one Paul. Nice sharp detail and nice nebula Sorry to say, but the 2nd one doesn't grab me as much. Probably more to do with the Full Moon we have tonight.

Yeah Ken, the refractor image is pretty ordinary. They were 30 sec exposures. Do you think I need much longer exposures with the ed72 ?
I have the sw ed 72 piggybacked on the RASA. I seem to be getting better results with the 178 colour and the 290 mono on the Rasa than the refractor.
The mount is the eq6-R. Even though I think I have things very well balanced ,the goto accuracy ,although still good ,it is not excellent like it is with the Rasa only cheers Paul

Hi Paul,, good discussion point with your two images,, First image,, very crisp and nice blackness in the overall image colours coming in very nice. Image number 2, lacking the sharpness,, Two things.. Is it the 178 getting in a bit closer with its sensor compared to the 183 or is it the aperture of the rasa.. I would be interested to see what you would get by recreating these images by swapping cameras ad doing same exposure and stack to see what the difference is

I think it is the combination of aperture and speed.I love this Rasa. It might just mean I have to get used to longer exposures with the 72ed. The 183 is a bigger version of the 178, but unfortunately the 183 wont screw on to the Rasa properly and I cant bring it to focus. The 294 is the only big sensor camera that I can put on the Rasa but I havent been getting good colour with that combination. The 183 and the 294 in the zwo versions have a different connection than the 178,290 and 224 on the Rasa. The 183 is the only one that wont screw on properly.
I need to work out how to use a refractor properly. Any advice would be appreciated. cheers Paul

I can suggest for you Paul, regarding the refractor, is get the focus absolutely perfect. Refractors have a knife edge focal point. Miss it and it looks terrible.

Oooo, that is nice Paul. The stars look sharp this time with the 183, even though there is an overall soft look to it.
I like the colour. There is an interesting orange area of nebula in the lower centre part and the whole nebula. And the whole Neb isn't the overdone Pink/Red colour most people make it (including myself, guilty as charged LOL)
