I note that there is a new version of Deep Sky Stacker in 64 bit, so it is much faster than the older versions. The DSS install notes say it will uninstall previous versions of DSS from the computer. If I install the new DSS, will AstroToaster still work with it or will I have to work with DSS directly to stack and adjust my images?

Hi Tim, I downloaded 4.1.0.1 beta back in April 2018. At that time it did not uninstall the old version. So if you've read that it now does uninstall the old version then I suspect that is what it will do. Regarding will AT still work ... yes it will but you have to ...
1. go into the AT settings and in there change the DSS folder from the old x86 version folder to point at the new 64bit version folder (wherever you installed the new 64 bit version) and then click the Apply changes button.
2. Then you must go back into DSS 64 bit and under the Save menu option you will see "Save DSS Live Settings". Do that so the new DSS Live creates that file in the new 64 bit folder.
3. Then get back into AT and again in settings you will see Apply DSS Live settings ... so click that and then click Apply changes button so now AT knows the DSS 64 bit settings.
Done. Cheers

Thanks Howie. I just downloaded DSS 4.1.1 and while the DSS documentation warned that the installer would delete previous DSS versions, it did not. I now have DSS versison 3.3.2 and 4.1.1 on my machine. I followed your instructions to setup Astrotoaster to work with DSS 64. Hopefully the weather will clear in a day or two where I can try it out. Many thanks.

Tim, you may already be doing this, but the next day after you have a viewing session, get into the habit of saving your raw files from the astrotoaster monitor folder off onto some other (archive) folder. This means in future when you want to either test something (like new settings in dsslive, or new processing techniques in toaster) or maybe reprocess something from way back in time and want to see how your newer techniques are better/worse than old, then you can do so. Ie at anytime you can start up a toaster session and copy those old raw files from your archive folder, and paste them into the monitor folder and watch / practise / test toaster reprocessing those files. Ie its kind of like a playback/test system with all your old raw files. In the case of the new 64 bit toaster and 64 bit dss you could of tried it out, and timed the increase in speed by doing just that ... pasting the old raw files into the 32bit one first and timing it to stack etc. Then repeating in the new 64 one and timing that. You wouldn't have to wait until night when frustration tends to take hold when things don't work the same Warning ... do not drag and drop the archived files into the monitor folder as toaster will then create all the temp files and stack files back in the archive folder! You must copy and then paste them into the monitor folder so toaster then treats them just like the camera has saved files in there. Then the temp files, stack files etc will stay in the monitor folder. Cheers
