I have posted up within other threads about short exposure EAA on DOB's and mentioned a mate of mine who lives in New Zealand. He not only broadcasts on the new NSN sometimes, but also regularly posts images on the NSN facebook page. Usually uses a modded DSLR with 10 to 30 sec frames stacked. But often in his broadcasts swaps between narrow field and widefield as he runs several scopes and cameras all at the same time! Pic below shows his GoTo DOB with (at the time of the shot) a solar scope he had on loan from a friend and that too stayed on his rig for several months. You can see how he rigs it to balance in ALT ... ie he carefully adds stuff to his dob using rails, and even a sliding counterweight system, so that when the ALT motor moves it all, it has a relatively easy job as it's all balanced. If he just loaded it all on the front (for instance) the Alt motor and clutches would simply not move due to the load. But when balanced, the ALT motor only see's a balanced load and moves it all perfectly. So if you have a GoTo dob and on seeing EAA photos and more and more lately ... broadcasts of guided Equatorial heavy duty mounts with pretty fancy gear ... it doesn't have to be that way! A GoTo DOB with even a DSLR and short exposures with stacking software works very, very well.

Always been a fan of the skywatcher sliding truss mount,,carol's brother in law brought his up for me to see 12" manual,,the light gathering is immense,, for ease I always fancied just the 8" maybe one day ,😀. Just get one of them and go simplistic

Just get one of them and go simplistic Indeed davy ... having bad back and just developed frozen shoulder I'm sitting here wondering when or even if I'll be able to manage my trusty old HEQ5 Pro, 8" Newt, counterweights, two big 120AH batteries to run it, the dew fan, the laptop, carting out the table, the chair, big box of cables and bits and bobs, then there's the tripod all of which are twisted and turned like jigsaw puzzle when placed in and out the tiny VW Golf. Sitting here wondering if the future for me might end up being binoc's and a reclining chair (and pipe and slippers for the old geezer!)

I have only used my SW 12" goto dob a couple of times over the last 5 years. That is about to change. My best image is with a ZWO 294 and this dob. I have wasted a lot of time trying to get my lx90's with various cameras to look as good as the newts. They dont cut to the chase in my hands. My dob is pretty simple. It has a red dot finder and an 8 X 50 finderscope. It is F5 but collapsible so I intend to experiment with some focal reducers which need more infocus. So far I am all talk but I will get around to it eventually. Paul

Know that feeling Paul, for me the alt az works ok in my az gti and wifi controlled via an app is great,, but having the wifi adapter that plugs into the heq5 is brilliant,, now sticking the wifi into a goto dob,, how good is that,, I'm definitely a convert to the skywatcher app it's easier and faster to use than the hand controller,, stick on camfi and that's full wifi controlled dslr scope..

Paul Yes Paul, seen you post having trouble focus and image quality on your lx90's and I agree totally ... newts have worked the best for me too. Refractors worked second best. But SCT's never seemed to work for me. Others get/got great results but I never did.
