Hi Everyone, I’m new here and very new to live video astronomy. Not sure if it’s appropriate to just post my pics here and ask for feedback, due to my green status and not really knowing you guys. This hobby is incredible and really has changed my life. No longer to I feel like I’m coming home from work watching T.V. till I pass out rinse and repeat, waiting to die. (man that sounds morbid) Now, it’s all day reading forums, researching new tech, searching galleries of photos studing equipment used and watching weather report hoping for clear skies. Imagine you guys can relate. Here is one of my first snapshot’s using a 9.25 edge, asi1600mc, sharpcap. Any tips on settings would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Andy

G'day Andy, welcome mate. Feel free to feel like an old friend. We are fairly casual here, and welcoming Looks like you are off to a great start. All I notice wrong is the stardrift. How long are your exposures? How many stacked?

Thanks for that info Andy. Wow! a single 6 second frame. Niiice. The star trails could be from the mount not tracking properly or wind moved the scope. The Dumbell Nebula shows up pretty good and the colour is nice Well done.

It may be due to an involuntary blow to the mount or tube or like Ken saids due to the wind.
With the equipment you have I doubt it is a tracking error
Try stacking to reduce the background noise.

Welcome. Thats come up a treat given its a 6sec sub. Sort out the star trails then start stacking. It'll be awesome. The 1600 is a nice size camera. More manageable than an APS-C size. Maybe I should have got one of those instead of the 071.

Andys Welcome. I am pretty impressed with the 6 secs. Was that without focal reduction and so F10? My sct's are alt /az and can only handle small sensors with my FR's so the 1600 doesnt get used.
Chris Why do you think the 1600 is more manageable than than the 071. Thought the bigger pixel size may be more of an advantage. Do you use focal reducers with your F5 newt and the 071? I am going to give the 1600 a go with my very dusty 12" Skywatcher goto Dob .Havent used my dob since I bought the Xtreme and couldnt reach focus with focal reducers. It is collapsible so I am hoping this can be overcome . Still struggling with EQ mounts . Paul

I'm just being my usual negative self. I found the going from 1/3" to a big sensor difficult with issues like vignetting which I had never had to deal with before. So I imagine the 1600 would be easier as its slightly smaller - but I'm only guessing.
I don't use a focal reducer with the 071 as its a huge sensor (I imagine the vignetting would be bad). The FOV is already 1.3 x 0.9deg on my newt and 2.7 x 1.8deg on my refractor.

Since your exposure is short, the star trails could also be a bit of backlash in the mount. I usually watch for a couple of frames to let the mount settle down. If I see it's drifting a lot, a short up or right pulse can usually take out any backlash.
