Whit this test, I will try to get an acceptable photo with a 10-second exposure stacked 10 times. I am going to take this photo without modifying any parameter of levels, contrast, histogram or any other in the camera software to preserve the maximum the original data of the picture and to treat later this photo with a specific program, in this case GIMP because this program do the job better and faster than the camera software, in my opinion. We'll see what happens..... I started by taking a photo of the NGC 457 the Owl cluster in Cassiopeia in this way: Scope: BRESSER AR-102 xs Software used: RisingSky Camera: Mallincam AG1.2c IMX224 Format: RGB Gain: maximum Settings: all by default Moon: 85%Seeing: Good Stack: 10x10" mean I start the exposition by pressing Loop in Trigger mode and do a W hite Balance auto. I let 3 shots pass before stacking begins. I enable the DFC and let it take a shot. I start the Live Stack ( Mean) with Allign and wait until 10 stacks. Then I press Snap and save the photo in jpeg. This, do not be frightened, is the result, moon light also appears in the photo:

This is the initial situation, Histogram is very displaced to the right as the photo was apparently overexposed

And this is the procedure, step by step to the final image: 1.- Adjust Levels 2.- Apply Unsharp Mask ( Radius=30, Amount= 0,8, Threshold= 0) 3.- In Hue-Saturation, apply a filter ACHRO and correct dominant color. 4.- In Brighness-Contrast adjust the black of the sky. 5.- In Curves adjust final bright of the object And that is all. This is the final image:

Great idea Carlos ! Putting up work flows for different cameras and software ... There's always questions about this on different forums.

Thanks Chris
This is one of the things I find missing in most Forums. People never say how they do to have the photos they publish. Or at least they do not tell the whole truth.
They keep their secrets.
In the Spanish Forums they do the same.

Most folk are ok about passing on there knowledge,, but yip you do get the ones who think it's a big secret,, I think You get the satisfaction that someone likes your image and wants to know how you done it even better

Yes, I am of the first .
I would like to see step by step how other people get to improve their photos, that's why I started this idea.
I like learning.

No problem mate,, the beginner section is well visited by guests going by our stats ,the more we post the more folk will come and learn about video Astronomy.
Yesterday we had our busiest day 6500 forum requests and just under 6500 page views, visitor wise we are usually around 140 mark every 24 hours,, so we have been doing well,, video tutorials by ken have been a big hit and I'm shure when ken gets some good weather and spare time he will do more,, Howie has done some great tutorials with astrotoaster and now has started testing with lightroom,,
Video tutorials are the way forward in my opinion and would love to see more added.
The forum is always promoting video astronomy and it's a learning forum, we aren't in it for brownie points, I think we have a great ethos here and hope we can make it even better as we grow
