Tried the ASI290MM the other night. On an 80mm f5.9 refractor with a meade3.3 reducer, working at f4. Stacked in sharpcap. Cats Paw Neb 30x 8sec gain300 The Snake 29x 8sec gain300 Trifid Neb 17x 20sec. gain110 (tried unity gain for this - sorry this is 5.5min which is a bit over the limit but I forgot to save earlier during stacking)
Just got an H-alpha filter. So going to try it with this camera now that the moon is returning (and presumably the clouds disappear). Also. The PC stick is working really well now. Got a good little ac-5GHz wifi adaptor for it. Much better range, more reliable and faster. So can remotely view - no leads at all from the scope to computer (have skysafari running via bluetooth). It also makes it easier to polar and star align (no leads to trip over when I'm outside doing this). I run sharpcap and PhD2 (when guiding) on the stick, and if using astrotoaster I get sharpcap to save on the PC inside and stack on that computer.

Fantastic detail Chris. Well done. I love the amount of tiny faint distant stars you have snapped. Especially in your Snake Nebula pic! Niiiiiice

Chris Great pics If you took 30 X 8 secs with your asi290 stacked in sharpcap but with your alt/az do you think you would get as good a shot. Paul

I don't have an alt/AZ. But surely 8 sec shots could easily be done

Beaut stuff as usual Chris! That asi071mc cooled you own keeps intriguing me. But it's always good to see mono shots from the 290, and these three you posted up are great images done in pretty short order. Great details and lovely to look at. Cheers

On an 80mm f5.9 refractor with a meade3.3 reducer, working at f4. Chris, how do you go from f/5.9 to f/4 with a 3.3 reducer? I thought the 3.3 was equivalent to a 0.33x reducer. I have a 0.7x reducer that I will probably try tonight which should get me close to f/4 on my refractor.

I have meade 3.3 and a 6.3 reducers. I just vary the reducer to sensor spacing to get the reduction I want.
I did a while bunch of different spacings and calculated the reduction from shots I uploaded to astrometry.net. These reducers work quite well on my refractor (even though this scope has a built-in flattener and isn't meant to use focal reducers). I get a reasonably coma-free field with the small 1/3" cameras up to the rating of the reducer.
So my meade3.3 I connect camera | t-spacers | t-sct adaptor | reducer | sct-2" adaptor | scope.
On my 3.3 reducer I have reductions of x0.85 0.6 0.5 0.45 0.4 with different t-thread spacers. Below than I start to get significant coma. Haven't sorted then it for my 6.3 reducer yet as I get a good range with the 3.3.
