Greetings,
I use SharpCap to capture images from my ZWO ASI071MC-Cool and then use AstroToaster to stack the images and stretch and adjust the image. Here is an example from my FLICKR account. I'm practicing EAA (aka video astronomy) so I rarely do any post processing. So I need to be able to extract the best image from my data between SharpCap and AstroToaster. I've been pretty pleased with the results thus far but I do have a few questions.
1. My images in SharpCap's preview show more color than the stacked images in AstroToaster. I save images from SharpCap as RAW16, FITS files. In Deep Sky Stacker I have under settings for FITS files checked the "Monochrome 16 bit FITS files are RAW .....". I've also set the camera to Generic RGGB and to use the Bayer Drizzle algorithm. Any suggestions on how to get AstroToaster to display the files as color images?
2. AstroToaster / Deep Sky Stacker creates a HUGE number of files. SharpCap generated 13 image stack of FITS files ( 412,321 KB total) and a small camera settings text file. AstroToaster / Deep Sky Stacker created 42 text, out, & dat files and 24 TIFF files totaling 567,679 KB !! My hard drive will fill up quickly at this rate! In addition to cal files for each image, AstroToaster created TIFF files called; auto
, auto25,
autofull, autofull0, autofull25, tmp_autofull_stacked
, and tmp_autotmp. Can someone explain what these files are?
3. I usually save a TIFF image of the final stacked, stretched, & adjusted image as my final image file. I also keep the individual SharpCap FITS files. I am assuming that all the AstroToaster created files can be deleted. As long as I have the SharpCap FITS files I can always restack. Correct ?
4. Currently I setup AstroToaster to monitor and output to the image folder created by Sharpcap. Is this the optimum file management strategy or is there an easier way to manage these files?
Thanks in advance for your help.
